Thread: SOE is a business, CU is bad for business

I'm writing this post not with the intention of getting deleted orbanned for my comment - but I wouldn't be surprised it it happened.
SOE is here to make money. Simple as that. Now you and I love SWG as a concept and are prepared to pay dollars and pounds to play in the universe. I can't say what I like what I've heard about the CU. And in fairness I haven't checked out the CU on ant TC yet. Partly because I know from the JTL beta that it may be significantly different from the finished version, and partly because I'm not being paid by SOE to beta/bug test their software so I don't see why I should. That may seem very selfish and not help them develop the game but I don't work for SOE and I'd paying for the privelege of doing it. My subscription fee, my time wasted not on a live server.
My account runs out in June, and whatever anyone says, CU will hit May 5th. The film gets released just after that, and with the amount of marketing spend that is being invested in EpIII, SOE, Lucas et al want a game that's easy to jump into and looks pleasing to the eye. So I can't cancel before the CU, and in fairness I want to see it in live before making that decision. Seem reasonable?
But what I have done is cancel the Wookiee expansion despite the lure of hunting on Kashyyyk and a new mount. My view is this - I don't know if I'm sticking with SWG since I have now opened up a WoW account and I refuse to sink anymore money into the SOE coffers until I know I'll be using it.
And here's the bit that will probably get me banned. Here goes....
Don't cancel your SWG subscription if you have the option. After all, you may have already paid for game time. But don't buy - or even better cancel - the download you may have pre-ordered for RotW. When SOE look at the stats for poor pre-orders they will get the financial message that current players aren't sure about SWG post-CU.
Here comes the ban then.

I wasnt going to cancel mine until may fourth and would hope that the rest of us would do the same. I had intended to give SOE the opportunity to show that they are listening and caring about their subscriber base. From what I can see, SOE is in violation of their own contract. I realize that they can alter the game as needed or as they wish however the combat upgrade is not the same game at all therefore since I did not sign up for the everquest clone that they are creating for the console players (swg empire divided releases on may 20 according to my latest information http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/data/561472.html http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=PT0446&title=star_wars_galaxies). wish it weren't true but there are release dates. Despite the fact that they will lose a crippling large percentage of current subscribers money says that they need to bring the console players in. As no console today can really match the capabilities of a computer and console gamers love shiny objects (I too have an xbox, ps2, Gamecube, Atari Jaguar and am a collector of classic computer and game console hardware) they have chosen to effectively kill starwars galaxies in order to attempt to bring in fresh blood. God knows how tells and guild chat are going to work as an example. This combat upgrade is going to destroy the server economies, destroy crafting, destroy the speed of the combat system and make grinding an incomparable drudgery that nobody in their right mind will want to pay for. As it becomes more apparent that money is more important than loyalty to your subscriber base and new short term subscribers (console gamers are a fickle bunch) become more important for short term profits. Your long term subscribers are left by the wayside.

My accounts already are cancelled, and I have no intention of renewing unless they PULL the CU at this time.
SOE, IMHO, had enough time already to PROVE to us that they are willing to alter the CU to try to assuage the major complaints, and they have failed to even attempt to do so.
Therefore, no mas.
To keep my money flowing in, SOE needs to pull the CU from release until such time as our complaints about the interface, combat system, etc are fixed, since it's far too late to even think they will be able to do so by 5/5.
