Thread: SEARCH ! ! ! !
That sux, maybe SoE should step up andfixsomething instead of covering it up. I guess they think if we have 10,000 post about the samequestion people will think that the board have more people using it.

lol, you mean like they work on the login issues and worked on the skins problem?
It took them almost a week to fix a simple forum skin problem, and we´re waiting for months now for a fix for the login issues. I kinda start to suspect that Lithium just steals their code somewhere, but they have no own know-how and can´t fix the bugs in the software.
There have been many post about this and usually its a bad
post (or ends up being so like this one)
The search feature is very memory intensive, "upping the amount of
bandwidth" can only be done so many times, the only alternative would to
be to remove all the old post, which then we would hear from the "what
happened to my post" audience. So that’s not an option either. Limiting
the number of searches prevents the forums database from getting choked up. The
bigger the database gets the more choked up it gets during a lot of searches,
regardless of the "user accessible bandwidth
So the final choice is that we chose performance.
Even with the search limited there are still over 50,000 searches a day

There was a suggestion in another post that instead of using the forums to do the search you should use Google with a site restriction search to only point to the SWG forums here.

Currently? It sure as heck seems to me that the difficulty of getting the search engine to work has increased by at least 2000% in the last few days... I haven't been able to get a single search request to go through - or a single "advanced search" page come up... and I'm a tenacious kinda guy... we're talking over 500 "refresh" clicks. Me'thinks something is awry these last few days.... I mean, I understand what you're saying, but this isn't just the routine "pain in the butt" SWG forum search, where you have to click "refresh" 5-10 times to get a response... it's like it's not giving a response at all. |

In other words...
typical SOE response of "We don't really care if it's not working good for you, we're still getting your money for the product so drop it." Heaven forbid they actually take steps to make things good for the paying customers, I mean just who the heck do we think we are to expect a fully functional forums and game?? /sarcasm off
You do have to wonder, of all the games that are currently out there and all the other gaming forums that exist and have for a lot longer than these ones...why is it only these forums that are having these problems?
I highly doubt they ever have or will increase the allowable bandwidth to make these forums actually functional, i mean that would mean they'd have to spend a little more money and be making that much less...oh no!! SOE might go broke doing that!!

Sorry, GarVa but I do not pay $15 a month for an incomplete forum. This forum should work 100% as it is included in the purchasing the game. It is also required to pay to post in these forums so why don't they work 100%? They should. Message Edited by RSQViper on 06-10-2005 05:53 PM

If the forums weren't basically the manual for the game it wouldn't be so bad. Perhaps getting a Game Guide Correspondent to organize things a bit would work, then you wouldn't need to click through page after page of useless threads to find what you're looking for. |

Well, sorry for sounding pissed off, but that´s cause i am. I´m trying for several days now to use the forum search, and it never worked even once.
I´m not impressed about the work Lithium has done (broken skins, login issues, search issues, etc) and neither should you tbh. I code for a living, well i used to, now i have my ppl that code for me

The larger the database size the harder it will be to get Search to function? Might as well just remove Search now then. |

The argument "[this feature] should work properly because we're paying customers" has been definitively proven to be irrelevant to SOE. They should really make a sticky about this...
