Thread: I'd like to put forward that the quote post button be removed.

I read a lot of posts, and I do mean a lot. The vast majority of posts by users are one line replies under a massive quote. It's not uncommon to have successive people quote the last post resulting in 2 pages of quotes and then a 1-3 line comment.

If you removed the quote button, not only would you improve the speed of the boards, but it would make it less likely for one thread to spiral out of control to tune of 10+ pages often requiring moderator intervention to either lock or delete the entire thread. "The great Ahazi Hourglass" thread is a prime example of this. Where the sole purpose was to quote the previous post and add a one-liner of your own.

Removing the quote option will also stop the quoting of a post with the addition of "QFE" as the reply to the post, an assinine and juvinile practice.

One more thing, how can I stop the threads from needing me to scroll sideways? It's extrordinarily annoying.

I disagree. The quote function is essential, especially on a forum that's sees as much traffic volume as this one. It is not uncommon to have dozens of posters in a thread per hour, and when this happens it becomes difficult to tell who is responding to who without the quote blocks (the situation is further complicated by the fact that these forums use a "flat" format).

Certainly there are times when people quote more than they need to, but I don't think this is a serious enough issue to warrant removing the feature entirely. Perhaps to make the poster's text easier to distinguish from the commented text they could have the quote blocks be a shade of grey and in a smaller font by default so they don't stand out so much.

I agree.

Clear, easy to understandinformation is really uneccesary.

I'm sure the Devs will agree with you on this one!

P.S. Learn to use your browser settings, and you can avoid that annoying scroll button. On second though, just go to a garage sale, and you can find a scrolless mouse, that should solve your problem completely.

No one ive seen has abused the quoting function anywhere on any forum. The above mention post "The Great Ahazi Hourglass" was meerly a forum game and an experient by the posters to see how far it could go, and as we found out, there is a limit and we couldn't make it any larger. Don't base this arguement on this one thread.

QFE's are a quick way to show your support for a statement.

There isn't anything wrong with qouting.. It helps convey who the message is for and in reply to what.

Someone just posting something in a thread doesn't make sense unless you know who/what the post is directed to. Without qouting the postee will have to add additional information such as who they are talking to and what about -- Not something I want to waste time doing.

actually not quoting causes more problems without question and noone is aware half the time who the snide/sarcastic comment is too and as such is invaluable.

simply make the QFE abbreviation part of the edited words mod bot thing....

I for one find it quite funny how people comment on what they dont like in this game like anyone else really gives a damn. If you dont like it then move to the next thread is what i say. This game has many players and many playing styles so get used to it. This isnt going to change anytime soon.

The quote button is on just about every forum on the internet and
will not go away from this one. There are many other things on the
forum that we are working with lithium to update and/or change this is
something that I can see as maybe a very minor annoynce that you can
probably learn to live with.

It will not stop people "quoting post" or any of the other things you
have mentioned. If people are trolling or otherwise breaking the rules
just click the "report to moderator" link on the thread.
