Thread: [COMPLAINT] Customers being censored?

A lot of people were not satisfied with the changes made with publish 24.
After lots of threads were started on the same topic, GarVa started one thread in the Jedi forum (that even got stickied) which got massive negative replies, some of them were very constructive, some of them were not so constructive. I just wanted to look back to see any new posts in that thread and couldnt find it.
I assumed it was moved to a more appropriate forum (since it was not a Jedi-only issue, lots of other melee classes posted also). A search with author="GarVa" and title "Thinking about ranting" did not yield any results. I am not able to find this thread, so I want to ask if it was deleted or moved to a hidden forum, and if so, what were the reasons behind it.
Thanks.

I think you answered the 'why' question yourself.

And yes, these forums aremoderated (moderation is a form of censorship) andthreads that get way out of hand* get locked or deleted**. The unfortunate result of deleted threads is that the constructive posts are deleted along with theoffensive posts.

(*) a thread with some abusive/offensive posts can be cleaned up by deleting or editing those posts. When there are too many of them then the moderators have no other choice than toeither lock the thread or delete it.

(**) as I recall the deleted threads actually get moved to a 'hidden' forum.

Yup, all that is true.
However, most people in that thread were complaining about being ignored. Ignoring customers complaining about being ignored (which is the message being sent by deleting that thread) is pretty stupid from a business point of view. If this is the way things are handled here (and they seem to be handled like that more and more), I have no option but to start talking about SOE at my favorite online stores or game magazines instead of talking to SOE about the problem I see with their product.

The thread was removed (the one I started) because the thread was not
going to be read by anyone anymore. All the replies that were
continuing to be added were mainly becoming abusive rants. The thread
served its purpose when the publish came out and it needed to be
retired.

Did SOE employees read the thread after it was started (before only abusive rants started to pop up) and gather feedback that was / is discussed in meetings and can we expect to see any actions being taken based on that feedback or should we assume that the constructive feedback also got ignored along with the abusive rants?

Well, I usually don't get caught up in these things but this seems to me to be:

*A tacid admission that the threads are intended as little more then a distraction for the player base

*The community relations department wishes to maintain a parent/child relationship with the player base instead of a customer/vendor relationship

To put this in a Star Wars context... "That is why you fail"... or at least explains a good part of the disconnect.

So what was the purpose of that thread then ?

Was it to try and get all the pissed off customers to post the thoughts on the publish in one place, to make them easier to delete, instead of having to go looking for them.

A lot of the posts on there weren't 'abusive rants', they started getting abusive when it started to appear that SOE weren't going to answer the concerns being voiced there.

Are we going to get feedback and answers to the questions/concerns raised in that thread ?

Finally, if there are 'abusive rants' in a thread delete the posts/ban the posters/lock the thread, but all you do by deleting everything including the well written/thoughtout posts is produce more people likely to rant next time and give them something else to rant about.

ps Perhaps it's about time that SONY started to look at the level of customer satisfaction SOE is generating for the brand/name. I have never had any problem with SONY's other products, but the way your customers are being treated here is already affecting the way I feel about other SONY products.

Unfortunately people often make threads into whatever want, the thread
was only a reminder to follow the community guidelines. It was never
posted or implied that it was a question and answer type of thread.

Can we please get a question and answer type thread that will be moderated to kick out abusive comments and focus to find constructive solutions? As it is right now, the constructive feedback in that thread seems to be lost.

Parent to child: you didn't use the thread the way I wanted

Vendor about customer: Gee there seems to be a lot of unhappy customers here. Wonder why.

This is my last free tip. I do consult in the San Diego area.

Best of luck

Yet, by the very fact that you left the thread open and not locked implied that you wanted those posts to all be in one place.

Normally when you make a post saying 'dont do this' or 'warning about that' you lock the thread and sticky it, this time you stickyed it and left it open, this was seen by your customers as an invitation to post here instead of creating their own threads. Also, if you hadn't wanted the thread to turn into an 'ask a question' or 'point out a problem' thread you should have made a post stating that as soon as you realised what was happening.

You as a MOD must know that people post their concerns/questions into any thread that a MOD/DEV appears to be participating in(that includes ones they start)if the thread seems at all relevant to their issue. The reasons for this are that it is generally impossible to get information out of SOE as to when you are going to stop adding more bugs and actually start fixing things, and also give us this balance that was promised in the CU.

Apparently the thread didn't serve any purpose, as it simply incited the trolls to rant and rave even more...counter to your original post...and then any constructive criticism of the patch and game in general were simply ignored, because they were either overwhelmed by troll posts or because of the truth...SOE Devs ignore player input.

So NO Garva, your thread didn't serve any purpose other than to amuse a bunch of posters for over a day in their personal flamefests against you and SOE.

Too bad SOE doesn't realize there was actually genuine player frustration regarding how this game is being developed behind all of those posts and simply took their normal route:

'Game working as intended. Post deleted'

You see Garva, it's attitudes and answers like this that are the problem. The thread was stickied and allowed to get to 75 pages before being deleted. Why was that? My guess is that SOE wanted nothing negative on the forums due to the new expansion and the release of a movie. If that thread was the wrong place for feedback or questions, what thread was the proper place? Where can a customer post feedback or complaints and actually get a satisfactory response? When I read what you posted, I immediately cancelled all SOE accounts. I'm not even using up the remainder of my time. The way I see it is you need my business way more than I need to play your game. There's always another game to play or another form of entertainment to find. As long as SOE has the adversarial attitude towards it's customers they will always be second rate and playing catching up to companies like Blizzard. Maybe you should scan the web for awhile just to get a feel for the kind of reputation that SOE has. Maybe then SOE and it's employees will come to appreciate the customers that they have left but I highly doubt it.

Took the words out of my mouth.

Normal SOE stratagey is to intice the new customers with lies and half-truths, such as "play as a jedi knight" which you cant and havent been able to for months now, and no fix in sight.

They have effectively destroyed melee professions with the recent publish and expansion.

Bac statated (not sure if its right) "the mustafar distance globe is only useable by ranged professions" this further adds to the clear unbalance that the pub-24 snare rules created. Also i have found in the expansion a sith holocron that gives armour break immunity but have yet to find any snare or rot immunity holocrons or any armour which can be snare sliced.

Seems like melee is being 'phased' out

Hahahaha... you know it's funny...

Just the other day I went down to my local EB store and just for "S&G's" Iinquired about SWG: Total Experience. They said they stopped carrying it because 1) No one was buying it at all, and 2) No one had anything good to say about it, just a long string of complaints condemnation from unhappy formerpatrons.

I started laughing. Was a happy day. The customer IS always right.

That's exactly what I tell any SW/gaming fans I run into who've never tried it.... I advise them to stay away from the game, at all costs. It's not like the devs and/or community relations ppl really seem to be willing to listen to the customers anymore.
