Thread: City/Guild Recruitment threads....Please reconsider.

Garva has already seen this via PM, but i thought that maybe since this forum is used for htis purpose that i would see what the community thinks.

Recently, i had a City Informational thread locked due to improper placement of the thread. I was not aware at the time of anywhere else to place it, as i played on Intrepid, and it was a Intrepid City.

I was then informed that it needed to be placed in the thread that was started by a Moderator that was stickied up top. To my knowledge this was used for specific information, and nothing else was to be posted there. So the thread was locked and the reason i got was because they were cleaning up the forums.

Well this is where my problem lays.

There are a million threads that make no sense like "What color is your car" or "I like Kaadus" or something like that. Right now i count 8 of them on the first page. These are not locked but are allowed to continually run and let people post on them. Some turn into flame wars, some do not.

Now the thread that i had, had no flames, and was strictly a informational thread that had to do with Star Wars, Intrepid, and the people that read the forums. No flames, in fact every single post on the thread was a praise of my city.

Which thread gets locked? My City thread.

No one looks up top to the stickied thread hardly. I reposted after it was locked in that thread and have gotten 48 views on it, and no one contacted me for more information. Now this is compared to 478 views, and about 15 or so people contacting me for more info, as well as adding 4 citizens from the thread that i started, over the same basic time period. Thats a big change.

Also, people look for who starts threads basically to see who is the one behind the wording. When they see a MOD that started a thread some time ago, most of them think that its the same ole info thats always in there. They know when someone in particular starts a thread from their history, it could either be good or bad. Basically if someone starts a thread for a city recruitment drive, and this person is known to be ignorant or bad, they generally wont even go in the thread and respond. If someone that is respected, or is well known for leadership skills or what not starts the same thread, then they tend to get more looks and more of a positive response than the latter.

This is my opinion, but i think posts that have a direct reflect on Star Wars or the Forum community should be able to be posted as long as they arent continually bumped, but stay on topic, and the treads like "Here is my pic in RL ha ha" should be closed and/or deleted.

Just my .02

Please give feedback, and no flames.

If it is not a city location/recruitment thread but an event thread there is no problem with a post like that being left as is.

Feel free to report spammy posts, unfortunately with all the forums we have its not easy always at a glance of the title to tell what the contents of a thread are and its impossible to read them all. If a thread is inappropriate use the report to moderator link.

But keep in mind that the galaxies forums ARE a galaxy general discussion forum so not all of this is a bad thing. Also keep in mind that the reason that those threads were made is to help people find information about Cities and PA's easier and to minimize repeat posting of the same information and excessive bumping of the threads.

Peopledo read those threads and do respond to the information there, just because in your one case you received more response from a separate thread does not invalidate the stickied topic (We also do not agree that people ignore those because they have been successful for Many mayors/pa leaders)

We never "look" for these threads its your community that dislikes having them all over they are the ones reporting them. Our threads are there to aid you in advertising, I'm sure we can relax the concern over these threads (especially with extra moderators on duty) now that we have some of our more focused forums. But if the forum gets to a point where recruitment threads are all you see when you go there it will have to be dealt with. I'm sure we can come to a conclusion that will make everyone happy

This is exactly what im trying to discuss here.

Maybe it will change once everyone uses the stickied forums up top, but i doubt it. No one will use those threads, as you can see from people being told not to post certain things, they do it anyway.

Point to that is that there arent enough Mods to control the posts that sholdnt be there, and im not sure if my post was reported for some reason, or it stuck out becuase of the title, but when my post got locked that day, the reason i was upset, was because there were 4 different flaming threads concerning one individual all around my post that was not touched.

I just think that there could be different moderation concerning these threads. You barely see these threads on Intrepid at all, but all the useless threads threads are in abundance all the time all on the first page, almost too many to report as you say Garva. I dotn get paid to moderate boards, i do report when i find something offensive, but hell even when someone places a advertisement thread for their wares on the wrong forum, i dotn report it, i just post on there steering them the right way.

Again, im asking for this to be reconsidered. Hell I'll even go as far as police the boards with you guys at nighttime when i do play using my second computer to help get rid of posts that just arent meant to be there at all, so we can post informational threads about our citys/PA's. Those threads up top just dont work like they should, and i ask that a different method is granted.

Thats awesome Garva...thank you so much for trying to understand.

It hasnt been a problem on Intrepid that i can see, i have at teh most seen 2 maybe 3 at one time on the first page at any given time.

I hope that this works out for the best, but if it turns out to be a honest problem, then ill understand if it has to be shut down.

Just please give actualy confirmation that we can post PA/City threads again without it being a spamming/bumping problem.

Thanks for listening Garva

No problem we will have to talk with our boss when he gets in to make sure he has no problems with that (but I believe he will be perfectly ok with it) and we dont really need an announcement (as we dont want to encourage a slew of these posts) we just will not lock them

Garva,

Thanks for reconsidering this issue. It is one I have disagreed with your reasoning on, as you may recall from a PM I sent recently.

I think everyone would be willing to accept reasonable limits on PA recruitement threads, such as no excessive bumping. My view of what should be acceptable would be to post a thread and bump it maybe once a day forno more than week and if it didn't continue with legitimate non-bumping discussion, then I need to just let it die. Perhaps one recruitment thread per PA per month would be a reasonable rule of thumb.

I think some limited recruitment threads, keeps the mod started PA thread clean with just a listing of the PAs.

On a more fundamental level, PAs should be promoted, because having friends in the game is likely to keep them playing.

Well I still recommend using the sticky threads (which for those that dont like to search are easy access) but like I said, we will lax a lil on the recruitment threads if anyone /bumps it like 5 times a day I'll scream.

AND WITH THAT 5 * * * * * FOR YOU i understand why you took the stance you did at the time as long as you understand it upsets us to see X amount pointless non swg threads and flaming threads cluttering boards yet we legitamately try to add to community but we are penalised , this is my only greif with you , and thnx for more than one reply within the thread , i feel the tide of feeling is changing at SOE and within the community think this game is about to have a second wind things are looking up , good luck on all the new things you are implementing and i truly hope the combat revamp puts things back on equal footing as this game is amazing , just flawed ever so slightly on the key points !

/agree Ham-Jo.

Why are ON-TOPIC posts relative to gaming on the Intrepid server being locked or deleted while off-topic spam posts are allowed to continue to clutter up the forums?Isn'tthat what GAT is for - OFF-TOPIC discussion? However, we continue to seespamming of the forums by the same people on a daily basis [aren't these people being warned of spamming the forums?]. And if a post starts on-topic, the same people will post disruptive or off-topic reponses that typically veer the discussion away from what the original post.

This is all very nice and all, very nice indeed BUT...

There's a bit of a contradiction here.

Where are the stickied Player City threads?

At least on myGalaxy board there hasn't been one since the one that lasted until last December expired.

PA recruitment and Player Events stickies exist, but no Player City recruitment sticky.

So far, we did the best we could by creating a thread ourselves in the same sticky style, for all City Officials to post in. Needless to say we constantly have to bump it, which clutters the thread unnecessarily.

We been asking for a CSR/Mod/Admin to create a Player City recruitment sticky fo several weeks now, in that thread. There even was a seperate thread a while ago, asking why there was no longer such a sticky. Some of us have even PM'ed GarVa about this.

So, for Force's sake, please make us a stickied Player City thread!

And keep doing so from now on, like with all the other stickies. We prefer this centralized method of recruiting above a shamble of loose threads all over the place!

Please?
