Thread: Apology to GarVA and thanks to Epitaxial: Star rating already CAN be disabled in user preferences..
"I would think it should be easy to remove the star rating system since you can disable it your preferences. Change it so everyone's account defaults to a Rating Style of NONE and can not be modified."
I didnt really register this untill this morning and lo and behold within my prefences was not only the option to disable ratings from my posts but you also can change it from the 1-5 star rating to a "recommend post yes/no" style rating. So if a person chooses to have the 1-5 star ranking activated they also accept griefing that goes with it. So this system DOES work, a person has to take it upon themselves to learn the system rather than get mad and rant (that statement was ment for me and me alone....I feel like a fool now). The system doesnt need to be changed I just needed to learn it, and I just going to disable it for my posts. Thanks for not getting as cruel as you could have been Epitaxial and I apologize GarVA and thanks for your patience with me.

hmmmm....seems like I can still get starred. I just cant see it unless I view all my posting and I cant rate another message, lol so my rep gets destroyed I just dont know it. Kind of defeats the purpose of disabling the rating system. Back to square one again. Sigh.....I give up.

Don't give up. Here's a way to fight it until the system is changed:
Make your own ebay style feedbacklist on a websiteand link it inside your auction post. People can click on the link and see the names of people who have bought items from you before. If they have any questisons, they can contact them in-game. Add a disclaimer that people abuse the star rating system soley to make you look bad [when you have proof otherwise].

I wanted to apologize for you earlier rants concerning One Star Griefing. Epitaxial wrote:

Unfortunately, as you've noticed, that option only changes the rating systemand the way it is displayed for YOU. Everybody else will still see the stars you receive. And everyone can still star your posts.
The key line above is: Change it so everyone's account defaults to a Rating Style of NONE and can not be modified."
Until this is implemented (not very likely) the star ratingwill stay. Those who turned off the system just won't notice it. (Which might be a good thing if you get too upset by it. If you can't see it, it won't frustrate you.)
