Sports fans might relate to this .. any sports fans at SOE?

Ever see an umpire or referee at a sports event make a dumb call .. realize he was wrong .. and sheepishly stick to his bad call out of pride or arrogance? Ever hear the fans boo when the officials, the fans, and all the players realize together what a bad call it was?

Ever see the umpires and referees get together and discuss a call that may have been a mistake and then come forward and openly admit it, and correct the bad call? Ever hear the fans giving the officials a standing ovation when they witness the courageous correction of a bad decision? I have.

Imagine this: the developers for Star Wars Galaxies get together around a big table. They take a look at the mess that was made when the CU was implemented. They recognize it was a big mistake that has driven thousands of players from the game. They make a courageous decision to roll back, to rewind, to reset the game to the day before the update was installed. Then the forums are filled with cheers from appreciative customers who recognize the courage it took to admit a mistake and correct a bad decision, instead of being filled with announcements of how and why players are departing from the game.

We all recognized that the game had problems because certain professions were dominating the game and there were situations that prevented players from fulfilling their own dreams in the game. Some combat professions that should have been able to compete were weak and useless, while others were unrealistic in the power they had.Weapons and armor needed to be looked and balanced so that we all felt we had a fair chance on a level playing field. We all anticipated positive changes that would make the game a better place for all.

The Jedi system was fixed. Woo hoo ! The Teff system was removed. Woo hoo! nice work.

However, the CU went too far. It totally overhauled the game instead of just fixing a few problems. We didn't need new icons. We didn't need a new attack engine. We didn't ned to change the HAM bars. We just needed a combat balance.

We didn't need to destroy the doctor, entertainer, chef, crafting professions. We didn't need to do away with buffs. We just needed combat balance.

We didn't need to quadruple the power of NPCs and creatures. We just needed to balance the power among players.

Imagine: We wake up one morning to find a big patch in process. The developers have seen the light and rolled back the game to pre-CU days and are taking time to reconsider the CU.

How many people would return? How much joy would ther be throughout the SWG fanbase? How many subscriptions would be saved? I say way more than would be necessary for us to say, "what a wise move." It would show courage, and be appreciated by thousands.

And we could all get back to playing the great game we love.

Imagine that.

Tom, I am quickly losing hope. I kept imagining something like that as well. I think we've been "traded in" for the newbie crowd. I feel so betrayed.

Not going to happen for the simple fact that it would mean they'd have to scrap RoW, which they can't do (its not their call, thats all LA).
