Thread: Correspondents Role & Turnover

Sure seems like a lot of turnover in the Correspondent ranks again (anticipates Tiggs reply that this is normal.)

Wonder if we can get clarification, for when considering working with or applying for a community Correspondent:

The requests for applicants says the following:

Player Correspondent Opening:{insert Profession}

  • Are you a community leader?

  • Can you objectively identify relevant issues and distinguish them from simply passionate arguments?

  • Do you like organizing information and corresponding with other members of a community?

Having been around for (almost) years, the feedback I've seen from Correspondents are that they are able to influence little in the way of community leadership, to the first bullet, and to the second bullet, that they are restricted in their organizing input to simple Top 5 lists, rather than being able to coalesce input from the community into design objectives (coalesce being a word that used to be used in the application process.)

They've also indicated that their input into the design process is mostly tail-end, often over-ruled in the final implementation, and not effective from a community perspective.

So what is the role of the Correspondent? Is the current state of Correspondent up for review with Holocron's statements of improved community relations?

After taking a new toon thru Legacy to level 64, and another CL80 to CL90, I've concluded that this game is bereft of value, and no MMORPG can survive so many role and economic devestations.

all correspondents work on a 6- 9 month max term after which we are asked to either reapply (along with others from our professions) or retire for a while. So Correspondent turn over is pretty predictable and expected. I expect mine to be coming up soon and I intend to reapply.

Our purpose is to focus communitydiscussion and report issues and concernsto the devs about our professions

we do not do design work but we are allowed to pass on suggestions and ideas about how our professions work and work together.

ThereforeOur input is importantas it provides a less signal to noise ratio input about our professions to them. But we are still not the designers nor developers so our say is limited to passing on issues and suggestions which they can ignore or implement as they desire. They are under no obiligation to tell us anything about what is upcoming.

Well, I have been around since launch and follow the community stuff as best I can. It proves difficult at times to read through all the B-S but just following the dev tracker and profession forum stickies paint an up-to-date picture of things.

It certainly seems to me that more coorespondants end up resigning in frustration rather than staying their term. More so lately than ever. I remember a time when the "top 5 issues" were more closely paid attention to by SOE and got the attention they deserved. Seems like that has slowed or stopped since the CU in my opinion. Some of the top 5 thread stickies have been sitting stalled for months in professinon forums, aside from the recent ones that got some loving.

Regardless of anyones view on this matter, I think it goes without saying that the lack of developer interaction with the community is apparent. It has been on a downfall. They get involved during expansion release times to help market or when there are fires that need putting out. Then dissapear back into the woodwork until the next crisis.

Whether it be posting themselves, through Tiggs/TH or through the correspondants... we need more interaction and a feeling that they are listening to those of use that are actually voicing legitimate concerns.

Well, this confirms it, SOE rep confirms that there is not much dev communication. And this over a chat room where discussion is heavily restricted to disallow open "bashing." Who ever heard of a chat room where you can't chat?

Interesting.

Tiggs and Rogue_5 are in CSR chat, anyone else want to blast them? (Well, not Tiggs, but Rogue_5).

Post like this shouldanswer the questionas to why they think there isn't much dev communication.... because some people don't want to communicate with them they just want to "blast" them.
