Is this the strongest reaction to a publish up to date?

I cannot even remember the CU was met with so much hate.

People are tearing down the Jedi forum and there's alot of martyrs getting themselves banned.

--- Cancelled 24th November 2006
Reason: The lack of multiplayer pve content and Star Wars feel.
For 3 years I have tried to find excuses to stay in game but only the expansions offered me what I subscribed for in the first place: A multiplayer Star Wars pve experience with friends around the globe. I found friends but with almost no addition of pve content they dropped out one by one. Now it's my turn.

It isn't only about the Publish, the community was just about to snap and the publish did it

In other words, it's escalating.

Well I think the CU, seeing the video footage of protestors being mauled by Droidekas in Theed on one server, it probably wins.

The situation is caused more by the complete lack of communication from SOE.

We all have concerns. ALL Professions have concerns. NOT just Jedi. Poeple want this to be an Us and Them issue, when in reality it isn't. EVERYONE has their criers and whiners.

Predominately, the only consistent from The Mods/Devs is the deletion of threads, constructive criticism included, and the patented answer of "We have forwarded your concerns to the team."

I work in a professional company with roughly 130 employees. As the MIS here, communication is just as important as the subsequent fix. If I used a patented answer of "I have forwarded your concern the the IT team" and nothing ever happened beyond that, and all conversation left the subject, I would be fired and then my team would.

It is not unreasonable for SOE to actually make people **GASP** accountable to the customer base.

Customer Service is at a all time low for SOE. I have had SEVERAL issues lately with billing, questions about character transfers, and in game issues. Customer Service is inept and lost. No one has the answers, or is bold enough to actually GIVE them. One or the other.

The game play is at an all time low too. They are ignoring SO MANY things that have been broken for 24 patches and three expansions now. But do they answre those specifics? No.

They have run off several correspondents. The people who supposedly interact WITH DEV's on our behalf. They have run them off, again, **GASP**, doing exactly the same thing to THEM that they do to us.

They lie about timetables and updates. They lie about fixes. How long did we have that infamous Chat Tab issue? I know there are amyriad of them, but I think in 5 patchs straight they "fixed" it.

When all is said and done....All the griping and criticism boils to one common denominator. NO COMMUNCATION = Disgruntled Customers.

And lets not forget. These forums are full of people from all walks of life....Old, Young, Male, Female, from many portions of the world. And while we may be Jedi, BH, SL, Crafters in game, we are all one thing to SOE....PAYING CUSTOMERS. And I for one am ready to demand I be treated as such. FOR ONCE.

Communicate. That is NOT saying "forwarded." Communication is dialog in an ongoing manner to accomplish a set goal. Our goal is to make the game what WE want it to be...we ARE the customers. Your goal should be to SERVE us to the best of yoru ability. If what you have given us SOE is your best, then your complete and utter failures by MOST Business Standards.

The community in SWG is its own worse enemy ... I really believe that. The lack of communication from SOE just perpetuates the rumours/anger/hate/dissention that start with the players. Communication from SOE is a huge problem though ... don't get me wrong!

I suppose it's because we have such high expectations from such a popular and loved license?

yeah. I can agree with that. I don't think its so much the publish. there are some good things in it. I think the publish is just the catalyst. ppl just need to go outside for a little while.

I'd be willing to bet the first few days post-CU and post-pub 9 & -pub 10 (the Jedi revamp) were at least as loud. In my opinion: the larger the number of changes, the louder the angry response.

Every change is going to have some people who like it and some people who don't. The more changes there are in a publish, the more likely a given person will find multiple items that they don't agree with (and more likely that one is one they really don't agree with). At somelevel of discontent, people start storming to the forums.

One problem with the forums is that it often comes down to "debate by loudness". You can't say for sure whether the backlash is a true reflection of the majority of the players' opinion, or if it's a minority that just posts a lot.

I've met Thunderheart, Tiggs, Rogue_5, Garva, Virrago, and some of the developers. Individually, they're good people who only want what's best for the game and the players as a whole. But SOE's also a business, they have to prioritize the work that they do to get the biggest bang for their developer time, fulfill their contractual obligations to LucasArts (and I suspect the timing of both RotW and ToOW fall under this), add new stuff to draw in new subscriptions, fix bugs to retain old subscribers, and do all this with a community that tends to go "boom" at the drop of a hat.

StarDryfter:

Out of curiousity, how many customer communications do you think you get in a day? With the forums, SOE has the equivalent of a suggestion box that gets thousands of items a day, plus they have to filter through the "U SUX!", "Why do you hate {insert profession here}", etc. And suggestions from different people are likely mutually exclusive: Make Jedi more powerful than BH, make BH more powerful than Jedi, I want more looted weapons, looted weapons are bad for the player crafters, etc.

The problem isn't a complete lack of communication, it's more that the communication we do get isn't what we might want. As a counter example, look at Microsoft. You don't (well, at least I don't) seeWindows XP users posting regularly on a forum, throwing out ideas to the MS devs for the next service pack or version, and complaining that MS Office is too "uber" compared to WordPad. If you send in a bug or suggestion, all you'd get would be a form response (almost certainly along the lines of "we've passed this onto the appropriate people"), and that's probably all you'd expect to get.

Tiggs, TH, and the occasional dev do post here, and do give some feedback. That whets our appetite for more communication, whether or not it's on a subject that they know about orcan talk about publicly (expansion information is probably never going to be posted except as the expansion gets close to release). The developers working on the changes are paid to code, not give status reports translated from code-speak to something fitfor player consumption. And honestly, asking for an ETA on a fix for any bug that doesn't crashthe game is futile. New bugs are always coming in, priorities shift, and just finding the source of a bug is usually the longest part of the process, and the least quantifiable.

Player feedback has had an effect on changes that have gone into the game. As a minor example, Wookiees and Ithorians were eventually able to wear crafter's aprons to give them access to the skill mods available to other species. As a bigger example, the group xp split change a few publishes back got backed out due to player complaints. I'm sure there are more. However, SOEis not obligated to do so. A change may be necessary for the big picture, even if it's hated by a subset of players.

Meh, I've rambled on long enough. In summary, communication could be better, especially with regards to future plans and schedules for things like the smuggler revamp. There will be players that complain about anything that SOE does. If it's not a complaint against a change itself, it'll be an argument about "why are you doing X when I want you to do Y".

*AGREE*

it's just that over and over and over again, the devs and mods and such, well, they reveal that they don't give a womprats ass what we think and what we want, and push out crap.
