The following letter from our president, John Smedley, has been posted:
Hello Everyone,
In Austin, our Star Wars Galaxies™ team is focused on a big change to the game's combat system. The "Combat Upgrade" is now live on the SWG test server, and it's getting very positive feedback from the SWG playerbase. The team is also putting the finishing touches on Star Wars Galaxies™: Episode III Rage of the Wookies™, which launches in less than a month. The SWG playerbase is very strong, and we're continuing to put a lot of effort into making Star Wars Galaxies™ even better and adding new content all the time. The latest expansion pack adds Episode III content into the universe -- something our SWG players were asking for!
Thanks,
John Smedley

Deleted irrelevant areas...
So even though over HALF of the community that's voting do NOT like the game, it's a positive feedback? How is this so? Or is someone lieing to him?

This makes me think like they realy want to get rid of Veterans at all. Newbies will be ok with new system as they not get used to old still.
But loosing 50% peoples heh *cough* CU simply turn game in EQ'ish game. Thats not SWG anymore, fast phased combat is myth, Dynamics gone down by 100%. Just make it 3d action then? Why not![]()
Episode 3 hmm. Never have seen anyone asked for it, nor as Full scale expansion.
CU will "RIP" SwG. I am not whining here, do DEV's actualy see what peoples tell, ot the yacting like Bull which see Red flag? > > > > > *BAM*
have u even played eq. some fruit one day penned the phrase that CU is like wow and eq, and like lemmings you all bought into it. typical.
Yes i played it. And i hate it. I like The wayproffesion going to work Certs and such, but combat "Q" removal and This new combat System making me sad.

so how much of cu have u played. im lvl 18 right now and i cant go back to the busted live game. its a mess. cu even its its buggy state is far superior. i knwo exactly what i can fight, and exactly how to level. no guess work. if i die its because ti was my fault. not because i didnt understand a list of 45 numbers that make no sense. i have played since day 1 and i stand by the claim that cu will be the cure for this dying game.
You think i am telling it out of nothing - do you? I am not making statments before i tryed thing i am writing about. Lvl 22
considering how much u seem to hate it, how did u manage to get to lvl 22 then... how could u stand it??
btw i destroyed my first character a couple days in to make an ithorian

wy, u can state how much u dislike it, i feel the need to state how much i do like it. the problem is im one of the few vocal peopel who will defend it. most people who like it dont bother posting, usually just the complainers post. i just want to make sure that when people read this thread they dont see only complaints.
yea some of the things in that letter were quite amusing, but even tho the live forums seem to dislike cu, i again state that opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. the cu forums will be much more on target for real opinions, ill bet thats what mr. smedly was looking at.

Take a look at the poll in the In testing-Dev forum.
Over 50%+ would NOT recomend this game to thier friends.
Yea, alot of peeps really do like the CU..NOT!

For what it's worth, the forum polls have never reflected the views of the gaming community as a whole; only the views of the forum-goers. Only a small percent of the game-playing community even uses the forums.
Frankly, the poll arguement doesn't hold much water, I'm sorry to say.

You know i communicate in game with peoples which don't read forums. They say, what they will quit right after CU. Many, many of peoples and their friends too. This is not what i am trying to whine here, or anything like this. That is a 100% true about what is going on.
Then after all that to say you guys are getting possitive feedback from the community?? And you say your PR and Community Relations has gotten better? Thats a joke. No one likes the CU, but again its gonna be rushed to live because it has a schedual and there is no time to go back and rebuild it from scratch which is whats needed. This is what happens when you build the whole damn thing ith limited or no community feedback, and change things that were perfectly fine. Try acctually listening to the players instead of lying to the media and the masses saying things are looking good. Galaxies is a sinking ship right now being drug down by this long awaited Combat upgrade thats a total disaster (Yea I know its beta but the basic design sucks, and there has been no respone so feedback) and is going to be the end of this game.

Then why do they bother totake the polls?
People only listen to what they want to hear. If a poll agrees with your opinion, then its valid. If it goes against your opinion, it doenst matter and isnt valid.
I say that more peeps read these forums than you think, if only to lurk and not post.
And I will say that at least 90% of the CU testers read and post on these forums. Thus I take from that poll that at least 50% of those that test the CU would not recomend this game to thier friends.
That tells me alot.

Actually not only have i found CU to be pretty much superior in every way to our live game, I have found that opinion prevelant from most everyone who plays it. the problem i see in these forums is uninformed people commenting on something they want no part of regardless of its worth. I'll bet u havent even played the test server, becuase the frog isnt activated and you wont PLAY thru the combat upgrade test to form your opinion. In fact i'll suspect that you and people like you are either a) scared to death of any change b) afraid that everyone will be on even ground, and your uber armor, guns, swords and buffs wont let you solo every peice of content in the game.
My advise for SOE: Look at the polls from the live forums, but take the results with a grain of salt. people dont like change, as is show throughout anything involveing people. instead look to the private combat upgrade forum polls. these people are the cream of the crop and chosen for their ability to discern real balance, instead of concentrating on thier own ability to exploit the system.
I have played it quite a bit, and they went overboard, and simply turned it into an EQ2 clone. It needed fixing, but not complete replacement. I grow more and more frightened that SOE has ruined the game I love(d) to the point of me having to leave permanently.

gawd i hate these forums, never seen such a bunch of whiners in my life. CU is probably the best thing to happen to this game. its so frustrating to see something like cu that has a real chance to revive this game torn down by the likes of this "community"
i could cry reading this crap. i comeback for one day and instantly remeber why i never come here.
awww... dont cry
