I distresses me to no end to find out that I'm paying to be a beta tester. I have suffered threw SWG bugs since 03. I have seen most of the bugs get fixed or found ways to work around it. To say
With that in mind, I fully support releasing it, buggy as it was, to Live. More people going through it means that they can identify and fix the things that need fixing faster.
Just caused me to reach for a cold barley soup can and open it up. I looked at my SOE box with "Game play may change at any time". I understand that.
But to be a paying beta tester andwatch as my former elite TKM and Master Swordsman get killed as I was just trying to get to my home! I only wish now I had went for the monthly re-up instead of the 3 month sign-up

How many speeders does the average player own? Now, how many creature mounts? How many zones on Kashyyyk do not allow the use of speeders? While the BARC may be "cooler" (depatable, I think it looks ugly), a veteran player will likely need the varactyl a lot more, as most players I know are full up on speeders, but don't have a single creature at all. Up until now, few people have had any reason to use creatures, as a speeder was always better.
Treena, this is where we have to agree to disagree. Whether I buy 1 or 1000 Swoops in the course of my play, these are "everyday" things, and are throwaway. Even the AV-21, which USED to be THE thing to own has become as common as an alley cat. That leaves "rewards" as the only thing that really gives ME an indication of the flow of newness in the game.
As i said, i personally prefer my Veractyl. But attempting to twist an additional 29.99 out of a LOYAL player's pockets so they can be guaranteed to get a BARC is just wrong, no matter what way it is spun by SOE. The very concept of using this vehicle as "incentive" for new players to buy the game is the most obvious use of reverse logic I have seen in some time. It's not incentive to be a first time buyer, it is an attempted Bribe to get more moeny from Veterans. To top it all off, the BARC will be repairable if it is disabled - Again, how would a new player even KNOW that Swoops, etc could be disabled and made worthless? It's too obvious.
Also, your use of Kashyyyk as an example of not being able to use the BARC is not really logical either. Certainly, on ONE planet out of the number we have it is not useful. What about all the other planets? You know, the ones we live on, do business on, live our day to day virtual lives on.
Take your sig for example. Let's say a "JTL2" expansion cames out. In it, we could travel to the Corporate Sector (Han Solo trilogy), there is a new planet to explore. We can get it via Digital Download for $24.99. The Digital Download offers us, the Vets the ability to ownacreature that flies through space (Sounds cool to ME). However, a new "All in One" pack is announced at the same time - But you find out the reward for purchasing THAT pack at 29.99 ($5 more, like now) is your Lambda Shuttle. Everyone KNOWS people would prefer the Lambda. It would be an obvious ploy to get us to buy the Pack, spend $5 extra, and FORCE us to start a new account just to get it, and to spend TWICE if we wantedboth items.
That's the exact situation those who prefer the BARC face now. I have no beef with the CU as you know. I do however feel this ploy is just downright wrong on so many levels.
Incidentally, pre ROTW I owned 2 creature mounts. Many people I know owned multiple as well. I now own 5 due to the additional slots given. (Veractyl, Bolotaur and Kashyykian Bantha added)

SOE has always had something special in their bundle packs. It's just something they do. They aren't trying to "twist your arm" to get more money, they are just trying to put something fun into the box.
Yes, we spend most of our time on the other planets. But the in-game items that SOE gives out with expansions are usually geared toward that expansion. And with that expansion, you can't use vehicles in a lot of places. Now, let's imagine that they had given us the BARC. How many threads do you think would have popped up almost immediately complaining about not being able to use it on half of the planet? How many people would have been angry at SOE for requiring that they spend money on a creature just to get around in the new expansion?

In my opinion, not nearly as many as there have already been posted about wanting the BARC. A BE Pet is almost a negligible expense, since it's a ride that will not get destroyed - But notice, you are still defending a creature with value on one specific planet being as worthwhile and fun as a vehicle that is essentially permanent, unlike all other vehicles in game, which happens to be usable on ALL planets, even a god portion of Kashyyyk itself.
Just chalk it up to an unwise decision. Star Wars fans appreciate the "Technology" of SW - It was inevitable that this decision would be controversial.

The decision would have been controversial either way. And yes, I am defending a creature that is usable on one planet over a speeder that could be used on all of them. Like I said before, the rewards from SOE have traditionally been given with the expansion in mind, not the rest of the game. The fact that the BARC only appears in the movie for about 5 seconds, while the varactyl is a fairly major part of it doesn't hurt, either.

But aren't both the BARC and Varactyl tradeable, so you can get one of each anyways?
I haven't got either yet, but I'm thinking I'll get the digital download for 1 character, and the box set for another. Partly for the BARC, and partly because the cd's will be worth their weight in gold if I ever have to reformat any harddrives.

Exclusive items are a mistake in my view, and I don't understand why a lot of games think this is a good idea. Exclusive items just means another piece of content is excluded from people who didn't buy the right box.
Personally, I'd rather take a BARC than the Varactyl.
As far as giving the game pieces free when we've bought them, i can accept that they've done this because i know that SWG needs new players. Is it fair? Not really. Is it for the good of the game? Yeah, probably. Asking people to buy the core game and expansions at this point will only make new players not bother to try it.
