The ranks do still represent star ranking. Check otherwise lower rankswould never require more prerequistes then higher ranks which is still the case. It has been stated many times by the forum mods that the star ranks still effect even though stars are no longer active. It is a long standing lithium issue.

as per garva:

1. Ranks not granting correctly, in some cases people are not getting the correct rank. - status - reported to Lithium
(there are cases where you do not get a rank that was part of the star system because you had already qualified for it minus the star rank so you will get the next rank after that where applicable, that is not a bug)

TBH I think they were smart enough to put all prequisites to 1star to fix it all in a row. /happyHalloween

We didnt actually fix anything BUT I think when I added the little
icons to the right of all the regular ranks, it had to do an update on
each user and granted them the roles that they were not getting before
due to the bug..... at least I know a possible temp fix if it happens
again *hands out icons*
