Thread: SDK for SWG?

SDK means "Software Development Kit"

I would like to know if it is plan to provide tools, development languages (such as LUA) or SDK to player's community.

In fact, I would like to know if there is an other command ingame to export data.

At the moment we can export mail(/savemail ?)and log(/log).

I started developping a tool to extract channel from logs (prose mode not supported) named parserlogswg (use google) but it will be very fun if it would be possible to have data such as template, stuff, datapad, etc etc available for export from the game to our local.

Why? Just for the fun to create database community to save player characters, and other data! Again, why? Just for the fun to develop something fun for our very funny game

Don't mixed SDKk with Cheat! We would like to use data from our character out of the game and NOT to manage from outside the ingame datas

And sorry if it was not the right forum to ask that

Good idea though, even a text extraction of a character's full list of stats and skills, and a jpeg picture of a portrait....yummy!

Heck, why not give us an avicon for forum use, with our toon face!

probably not for this reason:

7. You acknowledge that you are bound by the terms and conditions of the Software License and Limited Warranty that accompanies the Game. You acknowledge and agree that you have not and will not acquire or obtain any intellectual property or other rights, including any right of exploitation, of any kind in or to the software, artwork, music, and other components included in the accompanying CD-ROM (the "Software") or the Game, including, without limitation, in any character(s), item(s), coin(s) or other material or property. You may not use any third party software to modify the Software or to change game play. You may not create, facilitate, host, link to or provide any other means through which the Game may be played by others, such as through server emulators; additionally, you may not engage in matchmaking for multi-player play over unauthorized networks. You may not decrypt or modify any data transmitted between client and server; you may not use or distribute macros or other programs which would allow unattended game play. You may not take any action which imposes an unreasonable or disproportionately large load (as determined by us) on our infrastructure. You may not buy, sell or auction (or host or facilitate the ability to allow others to buy, sell or auction) any Account or any Game characters, items, credits or copyrighted material or any other intellectual property owned or controlled by us or our licensors.

sdk's all for to much stuff to fall underthe above terms. Otoh if you mean user tools (not a development kit) then they may feel like doing so but as tools cost money to develop you may have to pay sony for access to said tools .

I'm not a specialist to understand what is the exact meaning of EULA but I don't see any problem if the game provide aset of ingame command to export flat datas such as my current template and mod, my current inventory or anything else and allow us to use tools to show them in a better sexy way.

I'm speaking only about this kind of tool. I'm a webmaster and I want my guild to maintain its template on the web site and allow the other to see them. MAGELO Like!!!

And what about modifying my txt files containing all my macros directly from explorer to add/delete/edit/modify macros? Is it out of law" ?

And what about a tool to compute mail export to have something more sexy to manage mail? Is it out of law also?

And what about modifying my ingame notepad txt file using a tool to allow the contain available ingame?

I found a program enable to read tre files. I think this sort of program are out of law because they uncompile private file. So intead of giving files and saying "do not open them manually" why not provide a SDK to allow the community to create views of datas in the game instead of providing rought data?

Why SoE scares about giving datas or SDK to get datas to the player community? Blizzard do it and they don't have any problem of hacking or forbiden distribution! Player use this SDK to create very usefull UI ingame or to collect datas about NPC, quest, etc... I really don't understand why it is so "hard".

I love SWG but I'm frustrated to not be able to "play" SWG outside the game by creating tool for the guild I'm in charge.

A simple XML dump of such user information would suffice. Then you could use any language to suit your purposes to read and process the information, and then do with it as you will.

Exactly! We don't want to have a complete SDK but some command to extract info

/export character;

But if you provide an SDK, it will be better

The only thing you can mod is the GUI interface..

The core client you can't mod. As these leads to cheating normally.

Ok but is there a way available to mod the interface at the moment?

An XML dump would be your most feasible request. No matter what your intentions, a SDK leads to some level of reverse engineering which ultimately leads tomultiple levels of cheating/hacking.

And what about customize our interface? Colors, size, log....

It was possible in EQ using XML.

Cheating and hacking is possible only if the game take care of what you have modified. Today, program can modify TRE files and the patcher correct them. What is hacking so? I'm not a cheater or hacker.I just want to have tools to create usefull local interface or database for SWG Community.

For example:

A database to collect my character info and be happy to read it from my local

A special interface with my icons, a certain number of hotkey, the possibility to load the interface I want depends on the way I want to play today (crafter, mission, PvP, PvE....). It was possible and it is, with EQ. An XML file, directories with file such as picture and icon, a name and an ingame command "/loadInterface cratingUI; /loadInterface PvPUI"...

A list of webservice to know if this server is up. It was also possible with EQ.

We don't want something as elaborate than LUA language used by WOW, but something, an API or a list of command enable to gave us datas to use outside the game.

What is the problem with this kind of datas? We can do screenshot manually of a mob, get the /examine info and encode them manually in a private database (Allakhazam?). I can do exactly the same for my character but manually it is hard... it's why we would like tools/set of command/API/SDK/Whatever....

We have almost nothing...

Actually to clearify...what I think he wants was offered as a free service by Ultima Online. The ability, via a web interface, to view your character sheet. It the case of SWG it would be more advanced and the ability to see your inv, check your mail, etc. This was a free service since all it was doing was connecting to the same Database (SECURELY) and allowing your user account at the website to allow or not allow others to see it.

The chat log tool Idea is super simple creating a program to simply sort the log that is only a text file. AN SDK at this point would be a useless item because an SDK for a software is to modify the software and that I do not see happening.

points at the date on the thread and the fact this is necro posting....

anyway there is a command to dump all in game mail to a text file - character info probably will not be dumped as it would involved development money that I don;t see being spent.
