Yesterday I received an advertisement by regular mail addressed to the name of my avatar.
You heard me right. I received a special offer from Sprint addressed to Zaina Fazia. I assure you that is not my real name.
Since I have not used that name anywhere else, ever, and I have scrupulously opted out ofall mailings, etc.,I can only conclude that my account details have somehow been included withoutmy tacit or express consentin a mailing list that was sold by Sony or a third party to Sprint.
To allay suspicions that someone is playing a practical joke on me, no one who knows my avatar name also knows my home address. I have never posted my home address in any forum or web page, much less.
I am not upset by this; in fact, I found this quite hilarious. But I felt this, which amounts to a violation of privacy, should be brought to the attention of the community, if it hasn't already. This is junk mail absurdity of the highest order.
The standard reply to this, of course, will be that Sony, LucasArts and their subsidiaries do not supply subscriber information to third parties in any form. But I defy you to come up with any other reasonable explanation.
I would also like to know if this has happened to anyone else.

I would be terribly upset if I started getting junk mail with my char's names on them
I doubt it was SOE though, could you have used your char name, and personal info on another site?
Some 3rd party sites don't have much in the way of a privacy policy.

Tiggs,
Unlike "Zaina Fazia," I am a bit more concerned about this privacy issue. Could you please let the player base (or just myself) know of the results of this inquiry.
Thanks

Heh. Tiggs, he received it by snail - not email, but a paper delivered by a postman to his metal mailbox on his door, or something. That is not very forwardable by email.

perhaps it is you guys who should read more carefully she was asking -him- to forward the e-mail he recived to her. (or in this case, its snail mail so a fax would be more appropriate)

Tiggs said she was going to PM the Email address that it could be forwarded to and didn't say it was a snail mail or fax number that it could be sent to.
