Thread: Annoying kill stealing and loot getting

Just wondered if anything can be done about this.

Myself and a friend were fighting a dragon in the graveyard and we had it down to almost half its mind bar, when 3 rifleman and their friends run up and start shooting it. Killing it and getting the looting rights. I asked them why they did it and they said that they out damaged us (no news to me), i asked why and they said its part of the game get used to it. They then said that they would be in the graveyard for awhile and hitting every dragon they saw, as they had a ranger this would be alll of them, so their was no point me or my friend staying there. (waste of your time).

My guild then said that in EQ2 their are some kind of looting rights if you start the fight you get the loot.Which means that things like this cant happen. Even if someone out damages you, the original group or person gets the loot. This would stop all kill punking.

Just wondered if something like this system can be added to this game to stop this happening in the future.

it has become epidemic on bloodfin.... not only the looting rights but they are 'milking' xp from players trying to advance in chosen professions... it is so annoying... can we do something about this?? there are certain guilds on bloodfin that i believe make it a common practice... not naming names yet...

In EQ2 once your group attacks an npc the encounter is locked and nobody from the outside can take any action against the npc or toward the group. If someone in the group yells for help the encounter is broken and yields no rewards or xp, but people can attack the mob and/or heal the parties involved. It is not a perfect system but does help slow down people leeching xp and spaming specials to outdamage other people and thus get looting rights.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me. I hope that a red name will see this and take it into consideration.

A few guild members had a discussion about this around a week ago and one of the things that came up was that with the "first-come-first-serve" method similar to EQ the problem would be that say 2 people or groups are camping the ackley spawn- one group is melee stackers and one group is a bunch or people and a rifleman. suddenly the ackley spawns and both groups are say 20-25m away. who's going to get the loot rights if the new system is put into place? the group with the rifleman, because while the melee group has to run to the spawn the rifleman takes one shot at the ackley and his/her group gets locked in, essentially making all spawns a "race for loot rights" in a different way than it is now, but nonetheless still extremely frustrating. given, this would stop the times when you are eg hunting krayts and are working on a dragon for 5min when another group/person decides to come along and outdamage you, but it creates other and messier problems to deal with.

First shot loot rights just turn camping into a game of lowest ping instead of highest damage in static spawns.

At least with highest damage you have the option of taking up a high damage profession or grouping with people to try and out damage.

If you don’t have lowest ping with shot first then there isn't anything you can do about it.

I think a lock on wild spawns if you do 25% of the damage with no other groups competing would help with the most annoying forms of kill stealing.

Thats a good point i hadnt thought about the range people getting locked into the combat first. I guess a perfect system would have parts of both game in it. I was mostly annoyed because we had it almost half dead, we were not lossing health and its armour was breaking. We had done the hardest part, then they came along and just started shooting it. Maybe not the first shot counting then but at least when you have a well constructedattackgoing and then someone comes along and outdamages you they wont get the looting rights. If the system carries on like it is these group with 4+ riflemen in will camp the graveyard everyday and get all the loot. Then sell it on the trade forum,If you look in my galaxies forum there are many posts with about 20 tissues, 4 pearls and some segments. This cannot be sensible for the future of the economy, or fun for anyone else.

Well, pretty much the same thing happened to me yesterday, but with the added bonus of one of them then drew the respawn to me to make it attack me so they could take care of the juvi. I reported it and was basically told "too bad can't help ya" Just like every other problem I've ever had on this game. So don't hold your breath on them doing ANYTHING.

Its the whole super solo self asorbed dynamic they created with doctor buffs. In games where co-op and group tactic is required you see very little KS and Ninja looting- it gets you blacklisted fast, and when no one wants to group with you your characters basicly advancing no where.

in an effort to appease these subscribing players with bad group ettiquete, buffs were added and thus soloing began, killing any direct neccassity to play right w/ others, as no one needs anyone else to advance combat wise, players will do w/e they feel like because acting like tools does not threaten to hinder their advancement. Its the solo dynamic they created is why KSers and Ninjalooters are so common in this game.

Whenever i see something (IE Krayt/NS elder) that someone (or group of people are fighting) i always ask if they need help. People who go around stealing kills are jerks, also whenever anyone fights something im already attackin i just tell them its my kill or ask them to leave. i understand this doesnt work with people that are selfish but it works most of the time. Now, things that are a one time, long spawn (IE acklay) are ok to be taken as everyone there knows that they dont want to wait two hours and they have all fought there way down there.

the EQ idea is kinda lame because what if you want or need help.. what if ur fighting a creature and u need help then whos gonna help you??andnoone getting the xp or lootwould suck just cuz u needed a lil help.bad idea if you ask me. i think its just fine the way it is,jerks can ruin anything tho.

There seems to be a simple enough answer, hybridize the two systems: have the creature open to attack for the first 30s or the first 1/4 of its HAM, then at that point lock out anyone else a la EQ....whoever does the most damage of those who got in first will get the loot rights. That way, if you're around when the fight starts, you can get a chance to win the loot rights, but if you just come on up when its already half dead, you cant KS it.

I think the easiest solution is fixing the dmg outputs for all profession/items so that 'proportionately' everyone has the same chance at widdling down whatever HAM pool their working on equally. Thus making it so that a Swordsman and Rifleman have the same 'time' restrictions as the rest of us at making a kill. Granted, you've got a better weapon, and some other options you'll still have to deal with steal killing 'which is legal since this is a game of outdamaging'. However, clearly some professions have a lopsided advantage. In a game where combatants were suppose to be equal! I think this is something that, yet again, we're going to have to wait till Combat Revamp to see if this changes any.
