Hey all... I couldn't find the thread regarding the Assault Rifle idea - or the thread regarding the HAR fixes, so I figured I would post a new one... If this has been brought up before, sorry for the retread.

The other day I looted a Beam Rifle from Lord Nyax. It looks like the HAR and does energy damage. I had never seen one of these before,so I asked my PA weaponsmith about it. He said that he could easily make one for me, BUT - NO ONE has the certification for it. Sure enough, I equip it and "You do not..."

Why not have the devs give Commandos the certification for this? This might answer the Assault Rifle request.

Just an thought.

Well I believe it would need some tweaking if it were to be a useable weapon as well. If I'm not mistaken, its stats are a lot like the way flamethrowers and acid rifles were at launch. As in, real slow and low damage.

I'm not sure of the intended purpose of the beam rifle. Whether it was something they never finished and it just got put in, or whether they made it a certed weapon, then took it out but it stayed in.

An interesting idea though.

But you know, everyone keeps saying "assault rifle", but I think if we're going that route, to keep more in-line with the rest of the commando weapons, something more along the lines of a "machine gun" would be more appropriate. An assault rifle would be like an M-16 or an AK-47, which aren't heavy weapons. For commandos, I think it'd make more sense to have the star wars equivalent to an M-60 or a Minigun.

But thats me.

So funny you say that... I was thinking the exact same thing. A mini-gun is right in line with the current Commando arsenal. I'd love to see something like the mini-gun from Predator. Maybe a M.Commando certification: super fast attack speed with medium damage... can't make it too uber.
