Heya all. Beena long time since I've been in this forum. I see garvin is still the correspondent.
Good.
Anyway, I'm a smuggler now. Have been for a long while now (since about new years ish) so I get to see alot of weapons and their stats. I've seen some pretty killer weapons out there and have been regularly seeing non-commando weapons with stats comparable to average flamers. I was wondering what, if anything, this is doing to the profession?

Doesn't matter if their stats are comparable, we are still the masters of setting critters aflame. The HAR kinda sucks though, I was trying to not give in to the negativity but for some reason even my high damage sliced HAR (almost same damage as high damage flamer) cannot outperform it. Heavy weapons....rocket launcher for taking out turrets, but who uses those anymore? And grenades.... theres a certain cool factor there but largely they are a joke.

Basically, Flamethrowers and Rocket Launchers (although rare) are the only useful weapons in Commando at the moment due to very high inaccuracy or a high risk of incapping yourself.

Heh, that's the way it was when I dropped commando... the accuracy mods had just gotten fixed and the thing still sucked...
Anyway, let me explain what I'm asking further. Knowing the problems with commando weapons, the only real advantage I ever found to commando was the high amount of damage with each special (however slow that was). With other profession's weapons reaching the levels of average flamers and the subsequent damage from specials (not too mentionthe specials beingalot faster), how is that effecting the profession if at all?

Short answer: We have the lowest DPS in the game of all elite proffessions.
Long answer: With the DOT nerf, there is little incentive to be a commando in PVP or PVE as you can effectively do more damage and get more defenses by just taking tka or pistoleer, both of which get non-disposable armor piercing weapons that can be fired at the speed cap. Rifleman is right now the penultimate class for pve and pvp since they can conceal shot any target to death with their ap3 t-21 at the speed cap and they can target the mind pool of other players using an ap1 stun weapon (the jawa ion rifle). This only gets nastier when combined with combat medic. Rifleman also get nice defenses and you can use plenty of meds and get terrain negotiation with combat medic.

Hmm, I've been lurking on the forum here since I posted this thread and I keep reading things about the har. What's the deal with the mods now? I thought they got fixed.

HAHAHAHA! The only thing that we have heard about any of our issues is "All your issues will be addressed in the CB revamp" So right now it's a waiting game. Since the BH pre-req adjustments our argument has become MUCH stronger and Garvin is doinga great job with presenting and arguing our issues. There is a light at the end of the tunnel........just dont know what's going to be happening.

OK, heres the deal with the HAR, starting at launch and going to the present (as best as I remember):
Launch (6/03) - Both the HAR and FT can only be crafted with low damage and long speed (~200 max damage, 5-6speed); the HAR cert is broken and themods do not stack.
September or so - Special heavy weapons and heavy weapons get damage and number of charges revamped (for heavy weapons); the HAR does on average 100 less damage than a comprableft, is slowe, and has no dot;theHAR cert is fixed but the mods still don't stack.
December or so - Master Commando box gets a boost in FT and HAR accuracy; HAR mods still don't stack.
Feburary or so - HAR mods are fixed, but its still weaker and slowerthan the ft and lacks a DOT
March or so - DOT damage is redudced to 20% of the intial damage, and to compensate for this initial damage of DOT attacks is increased, thereby making the ft level 2 specials do 5x the base damage vs 3x for HAR level 2specials. Additionall, the HAR incurrs a higher HAM cost
