Pistol mods and specials? or is it considered a different weapon type?

It uses pistol mods.

Its the best weapon to use while grinding your way through the Commando tree, till you get Flamethrower 3 or 4. THen its time for the HOT stuff.

Yeah...also its argueable the best Pistol in the game.. 
And Can crash whole servers at Master Pistoleer lvl....
Also, if it -wasnt- using pistol mods specials Lol...id shoot the devs with it...and Miss!! (granted there WOULD NOT BE any specials to shoot em with then!)

Just thought I'd post this because it's just too darn cool... I've discovered a new use for the LP as well... It is a brilliant RP tool!
A rebel guild on our server set off a 'bomb' by an Imperial cantina recently (which scared the crap out of the locals.)
And how do you RP a bomb going off in this game? Why you have to players stand next to eachother at point blank and spam LP specials. 
It shakes the screen and everything!

Why even bother with the cert? You can shoot your oponent longer that way.
