As many of you have probably read, Holocron wrote a bit of a webpage/book entitled "Theory of Fun". Its been discussed at great length on the Shadowfire forums, even with Holocron himself popping in.

So, I thought it might be an interesting read to hear from everyone here about Commando, and play a bit off the "Theory of Fun".

Just some points I would like to ask, but feel feel to bring up whatever you'd like. Keep it clean, folks. Lets not get it deleted.

1) Is Commando fun?

A)If the answer is yes, then why is it fun?

a) Even if your answer is yes, what are your negative views of it?

2) If the answer is no, then why isnt it fun?

A) What could be added to Commando to make it fun?

3) What made you want to become a Commando?

A) What profession did you add to Commando to make it more enjoyable? (not viable - two different aspects)

B) What keeps you from dropping it and going to another profession

4) Do you feel that being a Commando enhances your gameplay experience (in general)?

I'm just a bit above novice commando, but so far:

1) Is Commando fun? Yes, mostly.
A) If the answer is yes, then why is it fun? Though the numbers of the profession are horrible, there is a certain fun that comes with blowing up Rebels with a rocket launcher or throwing grenades.
a) Even if your answer is yes, what are your negative views of it? Commando is a fun profession, but it can be tiring seeing as the damage is very low for a profession that is supposed to be one of the hardest hitters in the game. The AoE weapons don't often work correctly, and the built in specials in the weapons frankly are worthless.

2) If the answer is no, then why isnt it fun?
A) What could be added to Commando to make it fun?

3) What made you want to become a Commando? The "boom" aspect
A) What profession did you add to Commando to make it more enjoyable? (not viable - two different aspects) Smuggler, Combat medic
B) What keeps you from dropping it and going to another profession. I'm a Wookiee - fighting is about power, not finesse. And it's fun.

4) Do you feel that being a Commando enhances your gameplay experience (in general)?
Yes, I enjoy being one of a few, I enjoy being able to use special weaposn and blow things up in multiple ways.

1) Is Commando fun?Yes

A)If the answer is yes, then why is it fun?Wha tother profession gets to light 25 pikets on fire at the same time?

a) Even if your answer is yes, what are your negative views of it?No love!

2) If the answer is no, then why isnt it fun?

A) What could be added to Commando to make it fun?

3) What made you want to become a Commando? What profession sounds more fun than Commando!?!

A) What profession did you add to Commando to make it more enjoyable? (not viable - two different aspects)Carbineer, and smuggler. Who does not want a +ROOTED+ sign above everything in sights head?

B) What keeps you from dropping it and going to another profession because doing that would be un-commandoish

4) Do you feel that being a Commando enhances your gameplay experience (in general)? In the few times a RP, who wouldn't want to be a commando

1) Is Commando fun? 50% yes

A)If the answer is yes, then why is it fun? Weapon variety is great. Ability to turn single target special into a multi target special via aoe weapons is a great perk.

a) Even if your answer is yes, what are your negative views of it? Weapon AOE is buggy/broken at best. The lack of special attacks leaves our class without definition and reliant upon skills from another class to be even minimally functional. Many weapons only have low level varieties - adding 'mark II' versions for master commandos would be great.

2) If the answer is no, then why isnt it fun?

A) What could be added to Commando to make it fun?

3) What made you want to become a Commando?100 men would test that day, but only three would wear the green beret.

A) What profession did you add to Commando to make it more enjoyable? (not viable - two different aspects)viable - pistoleer/smuggler mixes - the crowd control specials turned aoe by commando weapons are great, making a commando/pistol/smug the best crowd control combo in the game. The only thing missing from this mix is a high damage special for soloing.

B) What keeps you from dropping it and going to another profession100 men would test that day, but only three would wear the green beret.

4) Do you feel that being a Commando enhances your gameplay experience (in general)?

Yes and no. I feel that with some tweaks, commando could greatly enhance my gameplay experience. For now, it is the slight chuckle that escapes me as i see a field full of my enemies simultaneously rooted and burning, though they still often end up getting the better of me since I cannot do much to damage them once I root them

Want Commando to have a large impact?

  • Fix grenades - ie better speed and much more damage

  • give us a satchel charge/placable explosive to use against fixed fortifications - alternatively, let us have the option to place grenades with a 5 second timer until detonation

  • Give us two special lines - the first being ranged armor break and the second being high damage

  • Make 'Mark II' versions of lower level weapons like the launcher pistol and rocket launcher, usable and viable at the master level.

1.) commando is fun i love being able to use the flame thrower it is one of my favorite weapons on the game

a negative view of the profession is the lack of skills and just the realization on how its not the "power-house" commando it is suppose to be, or could be.

3.) When starting out the game, my friend helped out telling me all of the professions and I chose commando because in theory it was suppose to be the highest damage causing profession, so i thought that i would love that. To add to commando I became a master marksmen and master rifleman to add to my ranged skills. I love being both a sniper and aoe.

I dont drop it and havent dropped the profession yet because I am waiting for the revamp because I know that it can be better and it has great potential. If and when the commando revamp finally comes I will then decide whether or not to actually keep the profession or drop it, hopefully they do not dissapoint.

4.) As much as I would like to say that commando enhances my gameply I am sad to say that it does not. There are no "special" quests for commandos and nothing that has been added to the profession to keep it interesting, other than the fact you get to torch things to a crisp.
