Thread: If AOE is fixed, wont commandos be awesome in pvp?
Alot of us smugglers joined your ranks waiting for the AOE fix. I have thought about it and wouldnt alot of problems be fixed with it? If we have a lower damage, but are spraying it across a 25m arc of death, then it about evens out because you can do the damage across targets, theoretically hitting like 5 people for 500 damage each. that adds up to around 2500 damage spread per spray. Throw in states and Jobs a goodone. Personally I hope its fixed soon, because I love these weapons...and you cant make me go back to pistols, please dont..

Correction, Auto AreaShot and Fan shot, meaning we then get no delay, have a lower SAC, and are a little faster.
So it is the bone for commando, if they don't give us full AOE damage when it is fixed. If we do get full AOE damage, then the best DD AOE Template will be Master Commando/BH/0-4-0-0 carbineer.
Sorry I use the we's so much. I am a master Rifleman on one char and a Master Commando on another.

Let me tell ya from my perspective where Commando really shines, and where I agree with the OP in his thinking.
PVP
Last night and the two nights before that we have been having mass PVP battles between us and the rebels from the neighboring city. As a full Smuggler/Pistoleer I have allot of crowd control moves. As far as I have seen (I just respec to this template on Wed) Commando weapons are AOE. Yes the splash damage is like 1 point. But that is not where the usefullness lies. It is when I fire off my chain of specials out of pistoleer/smuggler. Imagine this if you will. A large group of the enemy is bottled up between two buildings in a choke point. I run up and target the guy in the middle of the group, laser fire and lighsabers flying everywhere. And I flame on the following line of specials, which splash to 5 or 6 total people.
1.) Overwhelming Shot - give the next shots a better chance of sticking.
2.) Concussion Shot - stop them in their tracks.
3.) Warning Shot (Pistoleer move) - reduces the targets defense by 80. Causes damage shots to do more damage.
4.) Damage shot here - Once they are rooted and debuffed, unload with the damage. Alternating Quick Draw and Body Shot works well if you also have Pistoleer. After this chain I start the flame on process.
The regular flame thrower dot hits for around 360 per tick once I get them burning. Now the damage shot is only going to really effect my targeted foe, the others will take minamal damage. I was drawing allot of hate last night as I was group rooting many at one time. This keeps them still for 30 seconds and allows my riflemen/jedi to go cut them down.
Now for PVE, mainly if you try this you will just draw all the aggro from the mobs and more than likely end up dead. But with a good group you could root a pack of mobs and let the ranged guys just take them down in the 30 seconds you have. With pistoleers stopping shot you could basically switch between the two and hold a group of creatures perm.
I have been seriously been considering dropping part of pistoleer and mastering commando so I can use the plasma flame thrower. We have a good weaponsmith in our guild and I may have him make me a serious plasma flame thrower out of some serious materials.
If AOE and elemental damage gets fixed soon I will more than likely drops a little of pistoleer and pick up master commando

Btw, even with AoE damage broken you can still spread roots and stuff (only way we're useful in PvE atm), so ya dont have to wait till the damage fix heh
Of course maybe they shouldn't have given us AoEs. We'll see. I really don't think as Commando as being the guy who runs around Stopping Everybody, since were only suppose to have 1 Crowd Control.
Well good luck to ya Peeps in that. Maybe I'm a little grumpy because I'm not a Smuggler or Pistoleer.
Still I wonder how well Underhand Shot would work with the RL or the biggest AoE Weapon we have.
Personally I'd like a Weapon that can hit for 1500 Damage on Level 80, with a real slow re-fire rate, but I guess I can keep dreaming.
