Thread: So long Master Commando :(

I dropped Master Commando this morning, I am sad to say.


Commando is too broken at the moment, and I just don't see the point of playing a broken prof while paying for a game. I don't much like the Commando ideas that were expressed at the FanFest either. The biggest problems I have:


  1. Grenades suck

  2. Weapons don't work (proton rifle)

  3. Most weapons are either useless (rocket launcher, I mean, how can a ROCKET LAUNCHER DO LESS DAMAGE THAN A PISTOL!!!!!) or they don't work with other profs specials.

Master Commando should be the most kickbutt prof in the game, on par with BH and Jedi. How can a COMMANDO not have a 5 rating in damage!?!?!? There were so many great ideas for Commando before the CU, and we thought we would get them implemented, instead, we are back to where we were, maybe even worse.


IMO, the idea of having weapons as our specials was a good one, and could have made this prof one of, if not the, most unique profs in the game. The ability to take better weapons to powerup your other specials would have increased the dabbling many profs did in Commando, and allowed Commando to be a true powerhouse.


So before I leave, here are some ideas:



  1. If these weapons come out, requiring duel masteries in Commando/Carbs for the Underslung Carbine, or SL/Commando for the E-Web, etc.

  2. Rocket Launchers are useless, as everyone can get up from KD now. I would rather have a 7-8 second timer on RLs, but have them do like 2000 area damage. Make it so we would use RLs like the two man teams used them in the Matrix Revolutions movie (I know not Star Wars, but it was the best example of what I thought would be cool). Come out from a corner, and BAM! Hit people before they knew it, then take off to reload.

  3. Grenades, heck you should be able to throw them every 4-5 seconds or so, and they should do massive damage!!!!!! Like800+ damage

I really want to come back, I do. Again, I just don't see the point in playing a partially put together prof, when there are other profs out there that do work.

ive been saying this all along commando got given no specials because they were supposed to be able use there weapons with any other profs specials now that gave me the impression other professions couldnt do this which gave commando the edge...... obviously pistols can mix with alot of other specials coz smuggler and bh have pistols... but when u have rifleman picking up roots off pistoleer and fanshot to giv them uber areas its kinda kick in the nuts ... and all i get told is i shouldnt cry nerfs on other professions but that isnt a nerf thats calling for what was supposed to be in the first place.

The one class that stood by Commando's from the beginning were rifleman. Primarily this was due to the big melee penalty we both got assessed for equiping rifles and heavy weapons. Let them have their day in the sun, they went for a long time as semi-gimps. We had a long time as studs, albiet 1 trick studs, but all the same...


Also, commando weapons being able to use other prof specials has been around since I first started playing, even when we had /flamesingle2. Using /flamesingle1, switch to LP, /warningshot was how I levelled to master back then. We also had the advantage that as long as we had /flamesingle we could always grind *any* weapon exp we chose faster than masters of the profession we were working. Now people have what we had enjoyed for so long and you are upset? Like I said before, our day will return. Heck, just look at concussion shot with a flamer, if the other professions get fixed some more (working as intended), we can take advantage of that trickledown along with the fixes we will get someday.

Best of luck to you, I understand your frustration. I have a little more optimism than you about commandos, but only time will tell. I was a commando back when mixed with Smuggler and TKA, we could pretty much solo anything in the game (buffed). /flamesingle2, switch to VK's, FD, rinse, repeat, FTW back then in PvE. Now the whole system has changed and SOE is having to play *major* catch-up with every profession. The higher population classes are going to get their first run at the fixes with some trickle down to commando, then we will see ours. This is what I predict.... Once we get some trickle-down of fixes aimed at other profs along with some specific changes, Commando will be justified in being a #5 in offense.


Oh, and grenades have sucked forever. Maybe I missed a period of time when they worked well (I was gone for a year), but this is nothing new and I will *never* expect them to be more than a combat exp grinding tool.
