I was a Commando pre Curb...and a BH pre Curb. In fact I have been just about everything....and the 2 have been my favorite. So, when the Curb hit, I naturally combined the 2 and went Commando/BH. I enjoyed it, but noticed that while in combat...I used little to no commando skills. I have all the weapons, the G'nades, the knowledge on how to use them, but in combat, a trusty Carbine was mopping the floor with critters that my Flamer couldn't touch, and my hvy weapons were simply laughable.
SO, I dropped Commando for Master Carbineer. Life was good, until I reevaluated once again. Carbineer was nice, and while I was using some BH skills, I wasn't really hunting jedi anymore. PVP is a blast, but as a BH...it was too many long nights tracking to a jedi's house. If I wanted to be a delivery boy, I would have asked for SOE to put the template for it in the game..anyway. I had always wondered what the rifle was like so I dropped BH for MRifleman/Pistols4403 and Master Marksman. After a couple days it struck me. That template is what a commando should be like. True, I had no flamer or Gnades, but the combo of Rifle and Carbine and the skills they have combined to be what we the Commandos in skill or at heart have been looking for. I PVPed and killed jedi, most any BH I could drop in 3 shots...not having healing left me open to combat medics, but a commando is all about the team, and in a team, it was an amazing template that commando could only hope to one day be like. So, my final respec came, and even tho it was a great template, I came back to Commando. Doing so has shown me that Commando is truely, without a doubt, in bad shape. No amazing AoE attack or 300 tick DOT burn can save the profession from being anything but sad. Now, I realize some would argue with that and take offense. Much of it is simply defense of a professionwe alllove, and I won't fault them for that. But a simple look at the numbers will reveal the harsh reality of it. Now, I realize that some stuff in Commando are broken. But even with those things fixed, the dev comments about keeping commando in this state because of fear of a rifleman using a Flamer with AoE with sniper shot is what will forever hinder it. As a Rifleman/Carbineer, you can use a T21 or an E11 with full area auto. You can go under cover and sneak around then open up with an E11 and charge shot. You can riflebutt some one, then switch to a pistol and headshot them. You handle the ranged weapons with skill that no Commando can....yet should
After much work, I have found the template that is the closest to what a Commando should truely be like.
MRifleman, MCarbineer, MMarksman and Commando(3xxx, x3xx, xx3x) This template would give some flexibility in what you liked the most in commando..my favorite is the Gnades, and then the combo of Carbs and Rifles. This is the closest my soldier template gets to commando with commando skills.
The Soldier template in its most evolved and most commando like state? MRifleman, MCarbineer, Pistols4403, MMarksman.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am not here to whine or to brag. I am posting so that the commandos can see that the skills they desire are there, and so that the Devs can see that it can be done and should be done. The commandos need love. They got short changed in a bad way. Commando needs to be the 5 in offense. They are not. In the current state, they are not even a 3. It should be noted that the Skill #s they gave were intended to be the profesison alone. There is no way that a Master Commando with no other combat skills would be viable in combat to the extent that any other single master ranged profesion is. Some would argue that the AOE wen fixed will give us the DPS we want. It will not. Look around us. In raids, the mobs are all high end lvl79+ Do you really think that little extra melee defense you have will save you when you aggro 6 mobs of that level on you? No? Ohh, that's right you can use one of the nonradius guns. Once the proton Rifle is fixed...you can use it. But isnt that what the rifleman can already do..and with better stats and specials to boot?
Until this is fixed, I am afraid I will be having to remain a commando at heart and not at template. Good luck to those of you that stay and I hope the Devs eventually fix your many problems.
At this point if you are flaming mad, hot under the collar and ready to flame away, so be it. I would doubt that you read the entire post though. Besides, I am a commando, I can take a good flaming without breaking a sweat.

Well, I personally would rather have a working flamer and RL (heck, all heavies workin'), than have a bunch of rifles n' carbs. But I do agree that the other profs have us beat on dmg, even pistoleers sometimes. This is just a result of the lack of vision from the devs, relegating us to a simple utility profession, and then proceed to break us. It's their MO nowadays, so don't expect anything to change into what you have proposed.....a real powerhouse, none of this "your weapons are your specials, so your overall dmg will be reduced, even if it is the exact opposite of what you wanted" bullsh*t.
