Thread: I wouldn't want to be a Dev...you can't win...

No matter what the Devs do...what the nerf...what they power-up...some folks will always whine, complain and cry that they hate SWG and will never play again...or that they are being treated unfairly...or that one side is unfairly more powerful...etc...

Most of the complaints (especially the ones that came out just after the big patch) demanded fixes now or they would cancel their complaint...but think of it this way...looking at Commando for example...

Let's say they nerf Flame Throwers...Then all the Flame Thrower supporters will jump on LLC's (as an example) or ATSTs saying that they need to be NERF'd...Then the Dev's Nerf the LLC's and those folks jump somewhere else to complain about an unfair advantage...deny it all you want, but this is exactly what has happened with each patch...change one thing, and those impacted positively say Yeah, but those not in the loop boo and hiss...

I'm not saying everyone does this, but it's the exceptions that make the rule...

I'm going to let everyone in on a little secret...the game will never be perfect and will NEVER please everyone...you will ALWAYS have something to complain about and wish it to be changed...and yes, the game looks like it needed some more serious bug hunting before release (but remember back to all the whining and crying from those not selected as beta testers...which I was also not selected....about demanding to be able to play NOW!)....

I'm sure the Devs want to create something that will at least please most of the people (since they must know that they can't please everyone)...It's going to take some time to fully weight all the items in the game so that they balance out...and guess what...some professions will have advantages over others...in my mind, Commandos should be more powerful then Bounty Hunters due to the use of Heavy Weapons...but Bounty Hunters will eventually be able to do things in the games that Commandos can't (like player bounties)...And yes, we are required to master unarmed before we can go commando (no pun intended here) even though we really don't use it one we are into the commando skill tree...but maybe that's just to make it more difficult to get there...I feel like I've really accomplished something by just making it to Novice Commando...Each profession should have it's special niche...Bounty Hunters are suppose to be crafty...they should be able to take down other opponets via their witts not just their weapons...If I was a dev, I'd make their weapons less powerful then Commando, but then give them much better aim...Commando's would hit harder, but Bounty Hunters would hit more often...

If I was to imagine a Commando in RL, I would think of a soldier some degree of unarmed capability and a whole lot of Heavy Weapon education...so it works for me...My Launcher pistol works great for me...it's extremely fast and fun to play with...it helped me with my initial heavy weapon xp using a quick bleed shot and body shot while I got better with my Flame Thrower...now that I am approaching Flame III I don't need to use the pistol much anymore so I really don't need more specials for it...It's probably there to be a "beginner weapon" while you build up your accuracy...

No...I wouldn't wan to be a dev...to much complaining no matter what they do...I'll just play my game and marvel as I watch an amazing in game sunset...or get excited to see what new things are coming out...and if I get NERF'd to heck...then so be it...I'll still play Commando and I'll still be going for Commando...it will just more challange to it...and if I want to play PVP I'll just come up with a strategy to help myself have a chance....if I get killed in a way I feel was fair I'll laugh and congratulate the winner...maybe even ask them for advice on what I did wrong....who knows...

Things aren't perfect...and we are DEFINITELY going to see tons of more NERF's and power-ups before all is said and done (if it ever is)...we probably will get NERF'd...but later that will change and we'll probably be back up...what ever they do...I'll adapt...Just my 2 cents...flame away if you want...allrespectful responses are appreciated!!!

I don't see why anyone would feel the need to flame you for that. I feel the same way you do on many of your points. Very nice to read.

thanks,

I think being a Dev is truely a thankless job. They put in a lot of work to make a game that hopefully people will love. Sometimes you get rushed or you have to work with things that may not serve your game the best but you do your best. Once it is released you try to add more and to fix problems that crop up. There will always be people who are not happy and who want to point fingers and swear at you. How often do you suppose they get an honest "Thanks"? Well, I'll say Thanks guys because you have put a lot into this and continue to daily.

Thanks Devs

BTW....There is no "Nerf", there is only the Force

"Now, Witness the Power of this fully armed and operational Battle Wookiee"

- I support the CU and am grateful that we have a game that continues to evolve rather than stagnate. Join the positive voices!

People fell their $14.95 a month entitles them to dictate how the devs manage their product...like they owe us more then what they provide...It's like going into a Mexican Resturant and demanding they make you Sushi...then after you've eaten you meal refusing to pay because they didn't provide you everything you asked for...Yes...if demand is enough and it's reasonablethen they will provide it...they want you to be happy and enjoy their product...but in the long run, they are going to do what's best in their eyes for their product...We pay for the privilage to play their game on their servers...
