Thread: Once and for all... Why a commando beats a Carbineer, Pistoleer, Rifleman...
Let's all have a look at this. I'm going to use real life as an example, even though this is a game and shouldn't follow real life perfectly. Real life is a great guideline though.
The Bounty Hunters and Commandos are the people who have spent their lives training in combat... think SWAT or SEAL's. These people are proficient at using weapons, and staying alive. Ingame, this means that we don't have a lot of money-making skills, like weaponsmith or armorsmith.
Pistoleers have the skill points to be able to do things like smuggler. they won't kill a commando, but they can sell spice and slice weapons, they also have the skills to kill a commando, if they use tactics. Have an enemy commando in town? geta group, stay spread out so commandos can't cone you, and target one of the commando's pools. Don't have a couple people do legshot, and a couple do bodyshot, that is pointless. Also, it is very easy to get Carbineer/pistoleer/rifleman. It is harder to get the over 60k combat XP for novice commando than it is to become a proficientCarbineer/pistoleer/rifleman
Pretty much all I'm trying to say is this... If I spend 90% of my skill points on a Hybrid combat class, then I should be able to kill someone who spent 30% on an elite combat class. And it really bugs me when people say "I pay $15 per month just like you, so I should be able to kill you!." A weaponsmith/pistoleer can't take out a commando. Face it. If that changes, there is something wrong with this game.
Go ahead and flame me, but I'm sure plenty of people agree with me.
Indeed.
However, there still needs to be a way for someone who does not want to become a bounty hunter or a commando to compete. I wish to spend all my skill points on combat, but I wish to use a rifle.. yet the game gives me no way, and you lump me into the same category as the combat/crafter group.
"It is harder to get the over 60k combat XP for novice commando than it is to become a proficientCarbineer/pistoleer/rifleman"
Don't know about pistoleers or carbineers, but to be a proficient rifleman, you have to go up the special abilities line, which also requires combat experience.
And SOE said...
"The pecking order should be roughly even. The exceptions are that master professions that take more skill points should get a bit more of an edge as a reward for the additional investment
This one lies in tactics... as a Commando/Medic... i don't wear a helmet... i can't buff my mind for a decent amount of time and the helmet is to encumbrnant... a good rifleman (who would not stand face to face in a "duel") could make me resemble hammered dog poo.
So far as the balance and compairing... you still don't have to spend the points on brawler, pistol or carbine. That's a lot of point's i'd love to put in other skills.
Best of luck to ya. I like riflemen... ya'll are allright with me!
