My apologies as this is only a partial answer at best.

I don't know you can say there is a best, as they are for different situations. They have different effective ranges and different damage types.

What I use is aParticle Beam Cannonand a Rocket Launcher primarily. The RL does good blast damage but is really only going to hit at around 64 meters. As range decreases the mods to hit become heinous. Hence the PBC with a range of about 34 meters. Energy damage and not as strong as the RL, but still a good punch. When things get close, well, you've got your flamer for that.

I really only use them against players in PVP. I find all the heavy weaps to be fairly usless in PVE, AT-ST's, or turrets. They are just too expensive to use that way. At around 1K per shot you tend to feel like you are the loser after you take down an AT-ST with it. You can usually get the job done with your flamer or Launcher Pistol far more efficiently.

As a side note: The rocket launchers are a pain to manufacture. One of the most painful things to make I am told. Yes they can be made in factories and you can get them in factory crates, but it takes many factory runs before a finished product comes out. Part of the reason they are so expensive.

Also, if you are a dueler with money to burn. I've often surprised rifleman that think they are getting the drop on a TK/Commando by getting me to concede a starting distance of 64 meters. Most people think you are helpless beyond your flame special range. They soon learn that 64 meters is likely your *best* range.

This is all assuming you are a Master Commando.
