Why does no one ever use the acid rifle? Does it have a dot attack? Every commando i've talked to said it sucks.. but why?

To name a few, low accuracy with initial attack and specials, no DOT's, no Armor piercing (only acid gun without it), basically an exact mirror of the flamethrower tree which is far better.
