Thread: Heavy Weapons or Field Tactics?

I have to decide between going up Heavy Weapons line or Field Tactics. I'm already at Field Tactics IV, but I'm wondering if the Heavy Weapons line wouldn't help out more. I really don't use grenades...when I do, I find that the fragmentation grenades are the only helpful ones.

I don't really PvP, I'm more PvE, however I do a lot of faction PvE. So I'm not sure how much the Range mitigation is helping me. I do do a lot of big game PvE, so this is why I'm wondering if Heavy Weapons would really suit me better.

Thanks.

If you can only climb 1 tree then I suggest going the heavy weapons tree. There are pros and cons to both trees. Tactics you get ranged mitigation 2, but I don't see a difference until you get mitigation 3, you get +5 melee and ranged defense= big woop, and 5 vs knowkdown=does hardly anything, and of course grenades=no one uses these. Compared to heavy weapons=you get to handle some very powerful weapons, yet even with heavy weapons 4 you are still very inaccurate with them and they are hard to find, plus they are expensive. If you land a hit on someone in pvp they will most likely be dead but at what cost..each shot costs about 1k of creds, you may miss a lot..but hey you got some of the most destructive weapons around.

if its a definite choice between the 2 go with field tactics cause you never know when that force sensitive cave dweeler is gonna head shot you from 50 yds but its pretty certain that a rocket launchers isnt going to help you much, but iw ould reccomend not taking either, take some pistoleer or another good defense line (im not sure if there is benefit to rifleman without doing most of it)

Hehe yeah but with grenades, the thing about them is that that damage can and (with the proton grenades) DOES apply to you aswell as your target, if your inside the blast radius of the grenade when it explodes you get hit for the damage that the enemy does, not to mention the heavy HAM cost and VERY long wait (maybe 7 seconds) before you can fire another shot with your gun. Grenades just aren't usefull.

rofl, yeah, I have some Imperial detonators with a 23second speed. LOL. Frags are the only thing I ever use, though, and those are available at Novice.

I don't PvP, so I'm just looking for something that applies more to big game PvE. Factional PvE I do well enough with creatures and faction pet...rarely get hit, and I'm always buffed with composite on, anyway.

But Range Mitigation is all I'm worried about. If it isn't worthwhile at 2, then I'll drop Field Tactics. I have skill attachments that can make up for the defenses lost, anyway.

It's just that if I do drop Field Tactics and go HW, and decide...well...I need Range Mitigation...Field Tactics isn't as easy as HW to go back up. :/
