At 0010, you don't want to get caught up in too much PvP unless you've got a mastery of another combat profession to fall back on at least. Your accuracy and speed with a flamethrower at that point prohibit effectiveness.

Yes....

Plus you have to contend with lousy accuracy to boot unforunately...Makes you understand why folks want our profession Nerf'd huh...LOL

Out of curiousity, is it one particular type of profession that is beating you more often in PvP or does it not matter who you fight, you just get beat by them all? I ask because there are different strategies for fighting different types of professiosn...we might be able to offer up some strategy suggestions for next time that might help...

thanks for the confirmation.

I'd sayplayers with pistol skills take me out quickest...just seems as though they have the fastest attack (hard to tell which exact prof, though). Next I'd say commando, then TKA...

back to the grind....

I have to say Garvin you have to be one of the most curteous posters on the forums. I tip my hat (lame looking swoop helm) to you and your style for dealing with new and experienced commandos.

First you have to know your enemies weakness as well as your own...We get beat by Pistol professions (and most ranged professions) because they can kite up from a distance...all they have to do is stay more then 20m away from us and our FT specials are lost...They know that...so they stay outside that distance and use their speed, accuracy and ranged specials to beat us.

This is where secondary profession dabbling is critical...These opponents look at you and think if they can kite you they will win...but how much of a surprise is it to them when you use your LP to shot a Lowblow shot on them (via smuggler dabbling) to knock them down from a distance, then catch up and DoT them...OR...use some rifle specials, etc...have some extra abilities to show them they aren't safe kiting you...You don't need to master these other professions, just get enough that you can deal with kiters...

At the same time, these secondary professions will help you deal with Commandos and TKAs...since both professions share that same weakness...Kiting from distance...So you kite them...

The secret is to have Pistol, Rifle or other ranged skills...that way your a threat up close (thanks to Commando) and far away...

I have Commando and TKA because I prefer PvE over PvP...and since most NPC's aren't smart enough to kite you, I focused on making my character a damage dealer and player tank...

Hope this helps...

Right on Garvin......

If you are pvp'in as a novice commando you shoudl think about gettting more skills first. You wont hit anyone whtat is a master in another proffession. I am a Master commando and i still miss a lot of the elite masters. You should like he says pick up a second Prof. I am going Master Rifle, Master Commando, then smug dirty fighting.

Commandos suck at PvP and seems to be designed that way why every commando goes and nabs another elite profession to offset that fact.

Once you DO get up a bit more in the flame tree and your accuracy/speed gets to a more respectable level, one additional way to deal w/ kiters is to use overcharge2. This does roughly the same damage as a flame special but w/o the DOT. If nothing else, load up a bleed shot w/ your launcher pistol and then a OC2 to get some sort of bleed going until you can figure a way to get close. Another thing is to make sure to get a good Jawa Ion RIfle. This is stun layered so it'll go straight though any armor except for stun layered composite. Drop mindshot on them then do headshot2 on them for a bit and they'll drop fast, especially if they aren't prepared (about 75 of current pvpers).

Basically, #1 priority is to get commando leveled (flame tree at bare minimum) but not to forget about your prior skills, they really do come in handy.

Also Garvin - I'm a MC and TKM with some carbineer thrown in and I do real well in pvp in 1v1 and can hold my own in group battles (barring lag). It's deffinetely not an uber pvp template but I still have a blast with it.

Good to hear...I never seem to have much luck with overchargedshot2...how is your accuracy with it? Most of the time it seems I miss...so I only use it when absolutely necessary...

I'm sure the carbineer helps out for PvP (dealing with kiters)...if you didn't have carbineer, do you think you would fair as well with just MC & TKM in a PvP fight where your opponent is kiting you? Just curious...

Also...maybe it's because I'm impatient, but /healthshot1 (the bleed shot from marksman) is just too slow and weak for my needs...stacking it with /healthshot2 is great if you have at least notice pistoleer (had that for a long time...loved it)...but if you don't want to invest in pistoleer, I can't see /heathshot1 doing much good in a PvP battle, unless the battle goes long...

I actually took my remaining 17 skill points and put itinto medic...it sounds weak, but thanks to good stim packs I can take on the bigger game unbuff'd if need to and heal when needed during battle...everything else can be take care of outside of battle via meditation.
