ok, so i'm a 4/4/4/2 commando...

does anyone really use grenades, acid rifles, or heavy particle beams?

and, have you ever tried to destroy a large turret with a rocket launcher? it takes between 30 and 50 shots. and you die between 30 and 50 times in that span.

at-st's either kill you or get stored before you can rocket them to death.

Is this entire profession limited to FlameSingle1, 2 and FlameCone1,2?

No, it's not limited to that.

The Acid Rifle, although broken, can be useful against things that are vunerable to acid.

The Launcher Pistol is the only pistol weapon that does blast damage. The problem is that if you're merely a commando, you're using Pistol IV skills with it. You need to pick up some Pistoleer or Smuggler to get more accurate, fast, and killer moves. Once you do that, you'll have a weapon that is extremely dangerous and is more useful in PvP than the Flamethrower most of the time.

Grenades, Rocket Launchers, etc. are really only good on non-moving target in PvE. They are also good for show.

I use my heavy weapons to show off the cool effects to new players that are friends of mine and I use grenades to help level combat xp and that's about it. Other than that, burn baby burn.

Well, if you were trying to take out a turret, dying, cloning, and coming back, that is is an exploit now so I guess we can't do that. Please see:

Thx.

Many view the profession as being only as good as the flamethrower in your hands..

I've used them all. Here's what I think:

Grenades
Glops and Cryobans suck. Imperial detonators take too long to refresh (at least on all the ones I've seen). Thermals & C-22s are ok. Protons are dangerous. Ikeep sliced & powered up Protons on me at all times. They hurt when they land, but in PvP, they hardly ever land. And always follow the rule of never throwing these things at a target closer than 12m away; you will hurt (if not, incap) yourself.

Launcher Pistol
Great if you have pistoleer skills to compliment. Otherwise, you'll burn through them pretty fast using overcharge2.

Acid Rifle
One word: Broken.

Rocket Launchers
Used properly, they are devastating. Using properly means being at least 50m (ideal range is usually 48m, max is 64m, and the to-hit mods onrocket launchers from both distances are usuallyabove +20)from the target, standing still prior to using, and firing on a stationary target. This is the only weapon I use on turrets. Normally, I'll have a team of people working to distract said turret, have a couple of docs keeping them alive while myself and the other Commandos in the team shower it with rockets.

Particle Beam Cannons
Another sleeper weapon of the profession. When used properly, they hurt too. Many don't look at the heavy armor piercing ability that these come with. The ideal range of these (usually 48m) makes them a good fallback weapon for when your targets are out of /flamecone2 range.

Acid Beam Cannons
Use broken acid rifle if you really need acid damage.

Lightning Cannons
Our only way of the electricity damage. Good to have them on you for PvE, not very useful in PvP.

the lighting beam cannon isuseful in pvpfor the 100% reason that it does electric damage. Everyone walking around with their top notch composite armor on w/ 90%+ stats all still have one thing in common, they have about a max 80% electric. An extra 10% of that dmg is gettin through w/ elctric and the AP makes even more so if you manage to land some shots, you should be doing serious damage (yes, if you land shots)

I like to use my particle cannons to start all combat with. One shot, pause. Repeat. You usualy can shot two rounds before the targets aggro you.

Aside from that its only Flame Single 2 and Flame cone 1 so far (will be master soon). I rarely uses my LP anymore.

Last night I got a chance to test out the Rocket Launcher in PvP. And too my surprise it didnt miss once. Of course the few times I used it teh target was standing still. Dmg wasnt all that great, ranged from about 650-900 dmg. That was with spd sliced RL at 4.1spd i think. I dont think the area of effect works tho...there was quite a few players standing around but it only hit the one i targeted, i didnt even get miss spam for the rest. Of course I was buffed so Ham cost wernt a prob. normally without a buff i wouldnt use it.
