I just read someone mention something about having an assault rifle with different ammo and I think that would be very cool and perhaps I could add some ideas to it.

Maybe you could get a stock energy assault rifle with say3 sockets in it. From there you could purchase "Ammo Type" upgrades to add that ammo type. You wouldn't want to make it too uber by having every energy type available but you'd have maybe acid, heat, cold, and electricity. After the weapon is upgraded all you could "load" it by setting a radial option similar to changing the color of composite armor. All specials and damage would be the same but you would change the damage type and the way it looked when you fired it.

I think this would really reinforce the idea of the versatile commando.
