Going to hit commando tonight most likely, sitting at 900 combat exp away right now. But as I am looking ahead I really need to start looking for some commando weapons to buy. I do have somebody who is going to try to make me some weapons when i hit commando, so I was wondering if I was looking to get well equiped in weapons for a commando what are the big ones I should be looking to get.

Thanks

Well, the best way to go through the commando tree is with the launcher pistol. but only if you have some pistoleer skills, if not then the launcher pistol is useless. the launcher pistol is fast and with a combination of the pistoleer tree it can deal out quick damage to npcs. if you try to use any other weapon at novice commando, the damage may be high but you will hit maybe 2 out of 10 times? something like that, you guys feel free to correct me hehe

Mr. corn is pretty much right.

If your coming off the long grind to novice, you prolly dont want to *also* have to grind out pistolleer too, but if you have the time, it is a good idea.

Weapons to buy:

Flamer (flame thrower)

LP (launcher pistol)

HPBC (heavy partical beam cannon)

RL (rocket launcher)

HAR (heavy acid rifle - it looks better now....)

*optional* grenades of your choice - they dont hit most of the time, but they are fun to play with

(get yourself some proton grenades when you hit master.... and incap YOURSELF and your TARGET at the same time!!! its killer fun)

LP really is a good way to get the first block of the flame tree, then its pretty much Flamer everytime, all the time from then on out unfortunaly.

*however* toss on some good kentic, go to dath. get *ERAGED rancor missions* (36-38,000 per). set the big squishy guy on fire, then switch to the LP, stick a bleed/intimidate on him (you need to be buffed of course) and watch him melt away with body shot, because now you can SOLO rancors like nuffin :-) might not be a good way to grind, but it sure is fun.

I'm at 1/0/3/0. Are you saying that I can start soloing rancors? What's the heavy weapons XP on rancors (with or without DOT from the FT or LP)? I've been taking on savage quenkers on Dant. and mawgaxes on Yavin 4 and I've been getting up to 3K, which I hear is the limit (though I did get 3100 once). Soloing a rancor sure would be interesting.

at flame 3, yeah you should be able to hold your own against rancors. Area attacks will stack on top of single target attacks *wink wink*, so flame Mr. rancor and (i) spam bodyshot 2 after applying Healthshot 1. If you have the skill points, getting novice pistoleer for healtshot 2 and the added skill mods isn't a bad idea.

your asking the wrong bloke about exp. Im a *very* old commando...I haven't gotten a combat skill point, or heavy weapons skill point sincejack-o-lanterns were in season.... if i were to guess, i would say for an enraged rancor....3000 is a good range? anyone reading this thread know?

the key to taking any rancor down is to keep applying the flame dot. you will get NO *NONONONO* experience for the flamer as Enraged rancors have 100% resist to heat, by burning it down you just make it die faster. thats why its important to spam with the LP, to get exp. Oh, and the loot is nice too.

Being that Mr. Gohrann (other toon) is also a master smuggler, the ability to get lucky and pull two enraged rancor missions for 55,000 each plus any loot makes for a very fat pocket book.

I would also suggest having two (or three) good sets of armor...as these beasties hit for aprox. 3-500 per wack..you'll go through armor pretty quick though it shouldn't be too bad now that armor holes are fixed.

anymore questions?

Thanks a lot. No more questions right now. I've also got Novice Pistoleer so my plan is some combination of flamesingle1, flamecone1, Healthshot2, and Healthshot1 followed by spamming Bodyshot2. Off hand, do you know if rancors have a resist to blast? I like my RL (when it hits).

Thanks for the tip about the armor. Think I'll pick up another set before I head out. My Ubese jacket failed on me the other night while taking on a mawgax pack lair. It wasn't pretty.

also i forgot to say that you should use grenades to get the combat xp because grenades give pure combat xp, so they are good for going up the skill boxes that are on the far right that require combat xp
