Thread: Beam rifle: myth, legend, waste of metal?

I've never used one or found one for sale, but in reviewing the NS resists pre-CU, energy is their best weakspot. And beam rifle is the one commando (non-certed) energy wpn we can use. Anyone try it? Is it completely fubar? thx

The average damage range on the "Beam Rifle" is 100-200, iirc. Uncerted, since no one has certifications for it, that means you're doing 10-20 points of damage per shot.
Pick up Rifleman or use the E-11 you're certed for from Marksman.

If you want to use a commando hvy weapon...then an HPBC (Heavy Particle Beam Cannon) should be your choice...its Hvy AP and energy damage.
Granted, our disposables and grenades (and our special hvy weapons to a very high degree) aren't really useful in a long run against other weapons for high end mobs - all save our DoT really, which doesn't help us, only the group of hunters (or loot ninjas!)
Nevertheless...the Beam Rifle is all three, currently... 
Edit: Btw...non-commando weapon you can use? For what profession? Atm no one can use the beam rifle, and all the ranged professions have energy weapons that are far better regardless =). The beam rifle originally was to be a hvy weapon...hence why I mentioned the HPBC.

the beam rifle was never certed for any profession. One of the many ongoing jokes from SOE.
There is hope we will get it in the CURB, but who knows.. its been around so long maybe the devs forgot about it.

I got a few myself heh. They're rather cool...sorta is disgusting seeing a little piece of slimey goo shoot out of a HAR

I actually used to carry one around. It was funny having people run up and ask what that was. I would tell them it was a secret commadno weapon and run away. I was so mean back then.

honest question (non-flame), aren't these horribly inaccurate? Still new'ish to Commando and never tried this one (lessons from Hvy Lighthing Cannon

HPBC's are not horribly inaccurate, just not as accurate as I would like. When used in correct situations it can be devasting and using it during these type of situations, I seem to not have to much of an issue if I am at ideal range and the target is not moving quickly.

It solely depends on how you look at things.
Compared to a TKM or Master Rifleman...the HPBC is hidiously inaccurate.
Compared to our otherdisposable weapons, its damn accurate.
