Thread: Kneeling/Prone Accuracy: Its Ok as it is.
I hear many people complaining that the accuracy with heavy weapons is bad when prone and good when kneeling....
And I say that for once, SOE has it right. (no, seriously, dont laugh).
Think about it. Compare a rifle/carbine/pistol with a Cannon/Flamethrower.
Taking a bulky flamethrower into a prone position... or even a cannon (think real life grenade launcher like the M72)... you think you can effectively fire such a weapon and have it land on target? Your arms would be taking 100% of the 'kick' from firing those weapons.
Kneeling however, allows the force from the firing 'kick' to be absorbed by your whole body, in a position that is best designed to take it. Minimizing 'kick' = weapon remains aimed at target much better during that split second it takes for the shot to exit the barrel.
If you look at some WW2 combat films, you will notice the BAR (browning automatic rifle..basically a very crude rifle/machine gun hybrid) and the flamethrower were rarely fired lying down and from the shoulder..the gunners would fire it from kneeling or, if prone (logically to not get shot!), they would be firing these weapons sideways (aka, shoulder pointing skyward as the weapon fires).
So yes, commando heavy weapons should have bad accuracy when prone and good when kneeling.
Seriously though, it isn't that big of a stretch to think our class would carry something like that. I'm not quite sure you can compare commandos in the star wars universe to WW2 soldiers using machine guns. However most machine guns from that time period had the ability to accept a tripod mount for prone firing.
