Thread: Alternative Commando Weapons
Frankly it is my opinion that the Acid Rifle is a poor copy of the Flame Trower and basically useless.
My opinion of Grenades isn't much better.
Here are some alternatives I would like to see.
1. Heavy Assault Cannon. A large high armor piercing kinetic weapon. Something along the lines of a Barrett M82A1. See www.barrettrifles.com. The proposed weapon would have heavy or medium AP, severe short range penalties, and maybe knockdown due to heavy kinetic impact.
2. CQB (close quarter battle) skills. We have a whole line of brawler skills unused. Perhaps we could have a line of skills using the brawler motiff to get say a weapons strike skill like pistoleers have. Maybe a knockdown? How about a dissarm?
3. Commando knife or Trench knife. Again a close quarters weapon utilizing our brawler skills. After all, aren't commando's supposed to be deadly with not only explosives, but deadly close up knife killers? There is a line of real life knives labeld Commando knives, from the WWII commandos and rangers.
I appologise if these ideas have been put forth by others.I spend most of my time in the game and not on forums.
Thanks for the info on the grenades.
I guess my general point is this: With the large number of points spend, and our skill base including Brawler, We don't have any melee skill bonuses or specials. Doesn't it seem odd that the only weapon generally used by us is the Flame Thrower? Shouldn't the Heavy Weapons, hit really hard? Shouldn't grenades be a fight stopper? If we have a Rifle shouldn't it be a big heavy high AP weapon? we are anti-vehicle / large target profession aren't we?
Our profession in my opinion looks like this:
Grenades (best I have seen were AP1) slow, expensive, HAM costly, and not terribly effective.
Heavy Weapons expesive, HAM coslty, (AP3 finally) miss lots, and when hit, aren't the supper damaging things they should be.
Flame thrower (our saving grace) AP0 Fairly slow, short range, does good damage and has a good DOT & is the weapon I would think that we all use 99% of the time.
Acid Rifle AP0 I own a couple. I lugged one around for a month or two. Tried using it. I found they are more usefullinsafety deposit.
Launcher Pistol AP0. I almost forgot we had it. It does allow us bleeds and gives Blast damage alternative. I still carry mine.
So all said and done: One weapon that is usefull. (FT) & One skill tree that has AP3.
And I am still dropping CH to get Master Commando. Am I nuts?

1 - The higher level grenades are naaaasty with more damage due to higher AP. Very nice and effective.
2 - I pay 10k to 12k for 32 shot HPBCs that rarely miss and hit hard in PvE. Haven't tried em in PvP yet. When getting to Master, I would use it to take out the Tortur Bulls on Talus with one shot so I could clean up the rest of the camp. 7000 points on non-armored critters is a pretty hard hit.
3 - Not at all! Commando gets better as you get bigger. The pluses to the Heavy weaps makes things much nicer, plus you get access to the meaner grenades.
Stick with it! You will most likely enjoy it. Just don't pop a proton grenade at a charging critter....ouch.
Until they can frob me up a grenade launcher, I'm not actively stocking grenades....
I make a single exception... Cryoban.
I have seen no other cold damage weapon. This has been useful on occasion... Plus laying out a big blue kaboom always raises eyebrows when you launch one in a big PvP melee... I was once accused of using force powers when I laid out a few people using some nicely sliced Cryobans.
Want a good laugh, throw ice at people... the 'wierd' graphics alone will make people flake more than pulling a durni out of your back pocket.
