Thread: Commandos, what's the best PvP template combo post patch?
First of all, I just want to say there is some reallygreat information I've gathered by reading the Profession forums. Thank you all for your input. It's so helpful for those like me who are constantly trying to get a grasp on things!
I'm trying to come up withthe best possibletemplate for my style of gameplay which is prioritized in this order:
1. Support my guild when defending our city's HQ's against rival guilds
2. Support my guildwhen attacking other guilds/cities bases(those pesky turrets)
3. Big game hunting in a group (Krayts, etc)
I must admit I'm still a bit confused about the way the combat system in this game is laid out, and from what I've browsed on some of the other forums I'm torn with combining the Master Commando template with MTKA against another ranged profession such as Pistoleer or Rifleman. Feedback on the TKA forum suggests they are not quite as uber post patch (please correct me if I'm wrong),and it t seems that Rifleman have it over the Pistoleers with the new mitigation rules (again, please correct me if I'm wrong) so I've come up with this template and I'd like to askyour opinions.
Master Commando
Rifleman 4/0/3/4
Novice Medic 0/0/0/0
Novice Scout 2/0/0/0
I have yet to gaingaming experience with Rifleman or TKA. If you think this template needs some shuffling around, or just completely useless, please inform me (and us) what you would change and why.
Also, If you think MTKA is still the best combo post patch in accordance to the priorities I've listed above, please say so and state why.
Thanks in advance for all your input guys ![]()
I would say befor patch, take TK defense lines, some pistoleer acuraacy and speed boosts for the LP, then make sure you got a ranged kd.
Now I would say, master TKA along with commando. I am quite happy with the ranged mitigation and feel when I get the melee mitigation I will be quite happy with that as well.
KD is still a must to catch kiters IMO, but I have yet to try my template at PvP, and probabl wont until I get everything right where I want it to be as I travel alone most the time and would hate to get my grinding interupted by a band of rebels. Plus, I like socializing with both sides. Anyway, I'm taking the flurry shot in rifleman to try to use for KD but not sure how accurate it will be.
I know it sounds funny that I'm giving advice since I'm not personally PvPing but I make sure I pay close attention to what is happening when I see a fight break out, especially when its another commando and I know it is a sweet deal to watch a commando roast a KDed opponent, or use war cry on their AT-ST to keep it off their back. I really think the good PvPers Ive seen have made it look like an art form.
Its just my nature to study all aspects of a fight befor fighting myself. I think I may start here soon just cause I'm getting bored with NPCs.
Well as far as mitigation goes I believe that rifle, pistol and commando get the same mitigation, ranged mitigation. So you can get melee mitigation with TK and its benefits.
I am a group playing commando as well, for both PvP and PvE and when it comes to PvP, I enjoy fighting another group in the situations you describe. In those situations I never use things other than my commando skills and I have acquired some pistol and rifle as well. I find that I spend my time putting targets on fire either with single or cone depending on the situation. Dots create pressure and the greater the pressure you can exert the faster you can win the engagement.
Actually, I'd keep most of your template the way it is.
Most Commando's go MTk to get the most out of short range combat (<15m), melee mitagation and unarmed bonuses and defenses. They do KD/Dizzy then FS2 and finish unarmed. It's a solid template with the only major flaw being Ranged combat/Kiting.Also, depending on how you use your final points:the lack of terrain negotiation or healing yourself or others with 'Stims'. Most carry a RL or HPBC to make up for some of the range issues. They can also 'Tank' for themselves. It'sthe bestchoice if you plan on being on the front line, always 15m or less from the enemy.
However,
With:
Master Commando
Rifleman 4/4/2/4, 4/2/4/4 or Master
Scout 3/0/0/0 or 1/0/0/0 (can substitute with Medic)
you become a ranged killing machine.
Pros:
1. You become quite leathal at 50+ meters.
2. You can bleed or hit the mind.
3. You have access to rifles with heavy AP or unique damage types that go through armor.
4. You have a 'ranged' Death blow
5. You havetake cover, concealshot and sneak that allows you to hit MOB's or players with a chancethey wontauto-defend, counter-attack or auto-target. You also have some other nice specials.
6. You get to choose the battle ground (stay ranged or run in for a FS2/FC2 and back out to 50m)
Your enemy has 2 choices, Stay out of your range (hard to accomplish) or rush you.
If they rush, you can stay put and wait for them, or kite them. If you stay put, then its rifle until they get within 20m, then switch toFT and FS2 or FC2 once their within 15m. You can also use a RL or HPBC and some grenades from 40m-20m.
Neither choice is a good one for them. They have to'count' onyou missing a lot.
Cons:
1. You won't be able to heal at all, but with a full set of doc buffs and some good armor you shouldn't need too or you'll have no Terrain Negotiation.
2. Rifle specials kill the mind. Use spices, food and/orentertainer mind buffs to compensate. Also, use your specials wisely. You may want to migrate some stats as well.
3. You have no melee mitagation.
4. Melee opponets get bonuses to hit you (instead of the 2.5x damage multiplier). If they can get close enough.
5. Wouldn't be the best dueling template (but what is?)
Im sure there are more pros and cons, I'll let others pick it apart.
I believe the Rifle choice fits the support roleperfectly and as for'Big Game', I havent seen many people get hit from a Krayt and not go incap.
This is great info you guys thanks alot!
As i work my way towards these skills I'll keep reading the borads for all your suggestions and opinions.
Much appreciated! ![]()
