Thread: The support class
Tell ya what. I'll join a group, and "support" them with my grenades. That should be interesting.
x_guy: Quick, THROW A GRENADE!!!
me: uh...
x_guy: JUST DO IT!
me: k.
* me throws proton grenade
* me hits mob for 2134 points of damage!
* me hits x_guy for 1345 points of damage!
* me hits me for 3231 points of damage!
* me has killed mob!
* me has killed x_guy!
* me has killed me!
x_guy: uh... dude?
me: see?
Ooh, no, I'll support them with my cannons. Which need to be in almost-melee to be accurate.
Ooh, no, I'll use my flamethrower. Which needs to be in almost-melee to use the specials.
Ooh, no, I'll use my HAR. It's nice and big and maybe if I hit myself over the head with it, I'll stop trying to be a commando.
"Support class." **edit** you.
Support class my left foot. Commandos spend more skillpoints on combat than ANY other combat class in the game. Let me break it down for you.
Novice Marksman 15
Novice Brawler 15
Unarmed I-IV 14
Pistols I-IV 14
Carbines I-IV 14
Rifles I-IV 14
Ranged Weapons Support I-IV14
Master Marksman 1
Novice Commando 6
Field Tactics I-IV 14
Heavy Support Weapons I-IV 14
FT specialization I-IV 14
HAR specialization I-IV 14
Master Commando 1
Total sp cost--->164
164 skill points, and not a single one of them spent on crafting, scouting, healing,merchandising or frigginEwok glider-making. That is NOT a profession primarily intended to be a support class. Yes, there are support functions with in that, but that's only 2 trees out of 9. And they're still an offensive (ie attacking) sort of support. Commando (the way they've set it up) should be an offisive juggernaut, and should need other profs. to support the commando, not the other way around.
Heh...finally found my favorite skill box quote of all time...remember this?
"Flamethrower Specialization IV: Brings the commando to a point where they can use a flamethrower expertly and with impunity. A commando using a flamethrower at this level of expertise is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, and should be avoided at all costs."

Well...I consider Bounty Hunter a combat class...and it takes 230-ish points...but that's irrelevant.
Personally, I think the Commando requirements should be changed to just Master Marksman. Commandoes don't use any melee skills at all- they don't need Unarmed 4. I also think the BH requirements should be Master Marksman and one or two lines of the Scout tree (althoguh that doesn't matter here).
Commandoes do get a short end of the stick, though. They're even more broke than the BH are- and that's pretty broke.
And what does CM have to do in the Commando forum?

Master Marksman is 6 points actually, Master Commando is 169 Skill Points. Which is even worse for their ability
