I played as a Commando when the CU hit. I remember how bad ass I thought I was going to be but when everyone was testing out their palletes I was getting my ass handed to me over and over again. I remember the days when a Master Commando would roll into town and an Jedi that were there would scatter. I saw one a many Commando take down a Jedi Knight SOLO pre-CU and miss seeing the huge damage dealers reduced to such a broken profession. I don't know why the damage commandos dealt was nerfed so badly. I remember from when I played commando, that the attack speed was horrible. You would think they would at least compensate you with a little damage like back in the day. I one time saw a Commando scatter/kill about 8 overt rebels when he rolled into Bestine with his AT-ST (when they too were still powerful). I miss those days. I really want to take my alt Commando since I will probably be unlocking Jedi here in the next month or so but it seems like the profession has been so overlooked lately that I don't know if it will be worth it. I never see any Commandos anymore. Obviously you guys enjoy commando since it is your profession, but where is it most useful? I love to PvP but can't see a template where I could fit in Commando/MCM to make me useful at all. Do you guys just PvE normally? Or do you PvP but only when in large groups where you can sort of "hide among the ranks" since I don't suppose many of you have room in your temp for healing. It just really sucks that such a cool profession with cool weapons could remain so overlooked.

More than anything a Commando has to rely upon superior equipment and good strategy to be effective in my opinion. Without a doubt, Commando's shine most in group PvP. Especially is you have several devestating states/effects in your template. Timing is even more important with Commando. Our big guns have the possibility to do good damage, but that means you need enhanced weapons and tapes. The high SAC means that our "Damage" is only available for very short bursts, so it's very important to "unleash" at a critical time.

If you have a "damage" commando template, pick your targets and timing carefully, then unleash.

If you have a crowd control template, then coordinate with your group so that you can keep the majority of the enemy out of the battle, while your mates single out and eliminate targets.

PvE is tricky and utterly useless without some armor and stims. Also, be sure to use CoB, it's worth the weaponswapping. There will be a lot of times where AOE will not be the wisest. Get to know the "boundaries" of your AOE and weapon ranges. This will let you control your AOE. Positioning is key. If found that the 25m range of the PFT actually helps to control it's AOE and if I'm careful I can include one or a select few mobs in my cone.

Since positioning is so key for controlling your AOE, it is "essential" that you put weapons on your toolbar so you can unequip/equip them quickly for faster movement and weapon selection. Might also be handy to keep a melee special (leg sweep and CoB) on your toolbar for those times when you don't have a weapon equipped.

Hope this helps, have fun and good luck with Commando. Hopefully, all of this love we're promised will come to fruition soon, and actually work.

I'm a master Commando/Master Carbineer and I try and PVP a lot. I don't always win but I can say I have won my good share of battles. With the combination I am using I can Knock someone on the ground and slow them down while dealing out some nice damage with my Proton Rifle or PFT. I can also Heal any status ailments that are thrown at my such as stun and blind etc. with the push of a button. Mix this with some good armor, attachments and stims and your set.
