I'm torn...I'm currently 1/1/0/0 CH and like my GSP for a tank, but now that I have maxed out SP, and want to maximize my PvP ability...I am considering freeing up a lot of SP by giving up CH and a lot of the required scouting that goes with it. Any thoughts?

I have the same issue. Im currently 1/1/0/4 in CH. Im very close to having to drop my CH skills.

But the GSP is just too useful to solo. So I decided to keep my GSP's and just keep upping my xp in the proffessions im going to have to drop my CH skills for.. and keep track of the XP. When my xp in those proffessions are maxed or i have enough to, in 1 day, drop all CH and up the other proffession, thats when i'll give up my CH skills and sell all my nice panthers.

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

Guys, a bit of advice from someone who just had to deal with the skill point crunch and giving up creature handler...its worth it.

Before you give up creature handler though, go train a few Mountain Krevols, preferably four before you sell back. These guys are AR1, 35% Kinetic resists, and have about 2100 HAM. Small size non-creature handler pets that get the job done when you have to solo. The reason I say train four is for some reason, when you sell back the skill, you are exempt from the 2 creature data pad limit if they already exist in the data pad.

In a group, of course, a pet is not needed, I know it seems like you wont be able to do anything without the big pets, but believe me, you get used to it quickly.

With just a few tactical changes, I can solo Seething Bol lairs without the pets...it just takes a bit more weapon switching and moving, along with judicious target selection. Remember as well, that specials are not the be all and end all of the Commando class...they do respectable damage without them, so don't fall in the trap that I was in of "I need to get right next to the Seething Bols and line them up just right so I can pull off an opening Flame Cone.." sometimes, it makes more sense to start off at 64meters and weaken them until they close, and pull off the specials when feasible.

I have a similar situation...I am just about out of skill points, but would like to start the Rocket Launcher Tree of Commando. However, I am not going to give up my pet. I have a GSL too and his ability to tank while I fire flame specials is too great to give up. Even last night with my panther I was able to whomp Tuskans in the cave entrance with a very small group. 5 tuskans vs me and my kitty and we won!

I will probably give up my novice medic and just use pet stims to keep my pet alive, and hopefully get to meditate 4 on TK chain to heal myself.

A Cowardly Guerrek is a good enough tank for most PvE. I can solo Fambaa easily enough with one. You have to use a lot of Pet Stims, but they get the job done. And with Flame Cone 2, I can send my Guerrek in, wait for things to mass aggro him, sneak up behind him and kill tons of creatures in one shot.

In PvP though pets are just notas useful. (Unless you get a BE'd pet that can do amazing damage, albeit very slowly. Bindermen (a Master BE) on Chilastra has a Dewback that does 3000 damage every 18 seconds. When it hits...a non buffed player is toast and it seems to get its first attack in way faster than the 18 seconds would suggest...it just has tons of down time after that.)

In PvP, most players know to take out the Commandos first then worry about the pets...so (unless you're sending in Rancors) the tanking ability doesn't help as much (though it can save you from a DB on occasion).

So what is the best non-CH pet?

I'm curious... what else are you guys in that you need to drop your CH? Currently I am commando 2340, CH 3211, medic 2200 and doing just fine. However, I can see how dropping CH would seem like a problem. I would say that dropping from my graul mauler would be difficult, but in reality I wouldn't have a problem with it. The missions I do for cash mostly when I need it and only whip out my pet for backup on lairs I know I will get more than 1 aggro. Like stated above, often good use of position, mask scent, and ranged attack with the FT allows me to kill mobs which die immediately upon closing with me and my pet doesn't even hit them. Most humanoid NPC's that attack me are blue or white con, and due to the melee bug always die before they reach me. Personally, once I get tired of farming money I will drop my CH pets in favor of the mountain krevols... allowing me to throw my combat exp into TKA. The only thing I will truely miss is taming the little babies since it is so fun.

Well in addition to mastering Cammando, I am adding some TKA and anything else that helps me survive longer in PvP. Pets are not as commonly used in PvP so I thought a tough non-ch pet would be fine for tanking. You get a lot of sp back when giving up CH, along with the scouting that is required for CH. Not sure where I will allocate the rest but maybe some pharm to get to stim Cs would be nice for PvP. Any suggestions in this area would be nice.

Bikebum,

I really was not in a serious skill point crunch where I needed to sell it back, but, I wanted to learn to live without the help of pets, if it was possible. Just a personal thing really. I am also banking on mounts allowing me to get rid of my Scout line altogether at some point, freeing up truckloads of skill points that could be used to better flesh out my combat abilities. If the dev gods see fit to dump some Terrain Nav into one of our lines, even better. You can have Master Commando, CH 1,1,0,0, and enough medic to still have a respectable ability to heal if you wish.

Good man CH is for the weak and afraid. Its a good feeling to take on the challenges with just u, your weapons, and good tactics. Its a much more Star Wars type feeling. Good luck to you. I wish more people would do it. This game would be so much better. PVP whats that? PvCH is more like it. Oh well Ill knockdown there pet and fry them all Muhahahaha!!!

How do the combat droids compare to the non-CH pets? I know droids require alot more maintenance, but not sure if they are worth it if you are a non-CHer.

As to not many CHers in PvP, there are a zillion of them on Sunrunner, not just CH dabblers but there are alot of master CHs. I was at Corellia Starport and it was like Jurassic Park, it was wall-to-wall animals and they ripped the bejesus out of all the shooters on both sides. I had a great time watching, luckily I am not in either faction atm.

Alot of CH/Medics, makes it pretty tough for most shooters. I think CHs are a bit over-the-top, not so much power wise because their damage level isnt fantastic, but on my server at least it seems less like SW and more like Jurassic Park on steroids. I think alot are going towards CH to cope with mass of CHs and its a snowballing effect.

Being a CH isn't a massive skill drain, you can still have a fair amount of offense or defenseand still have an army of pets, it only costs 106 skill points to go master CH leaving alot for offense (or what is more obnoxious are the CH/medics), there are enough points to go master CH/master Doctor since you are left with 144 points if going master CH.

I think what keeps the BH numbers down is the fact it takes so many points to become a BH and leaves very little for anything else. With it only requiring 42% of your skill points to hit master CH its not really a 'specialist profession'. Commandos require 169 and BHs require 217. I think CH should be more of a dedicated or difficult profession because I think having too many creatures running around is bad for the theme.

I think they should add in more pre-requisites for the CH and then add in alot of the babies they removed and give them more abilities to make up for being more specialised. Its not their offensive damage that is the problem, it is their insane resistances to damage and facing multiple pets from one CH, alot of the creatures are the size of a small planet and having armies of them running around just detracts from the whole SW theme.
