What is it's max range? I have a friend (who will remain unnamed) who is about to get novice commando and want to know at what range I'd be safe from that flamethrower of his if we ever dual. I'm a Smuggler/Pistoleer so I don't have the best aim at longer ranges, but if it forces him to switch to something othe than a heavy weapon to attack me, then so be it.

When using specials it seems like you gotta be atleast 16m or closer otherwise it's out to 64m.

Jadkia is correct, though the damage per second with a Flamer beyond 16 meters is not that much different than what a decently skilled pistoleer could achieve.

Commandos also get the Rocket Launcher, Acid Stream Launcher, Heavy Particle Beam Cannon and Lightning Cannon...each of which have accuracy issues at lower levels...but they have a significantly better ideal range of about 36-46 meters. They are very slow (normally) and deathly expensive, but they are frequently one shot kills\, if they hit.

Their accurancies drop very precipitously beyond 50 meters though. (down to like the -120 range)
