Since Heavy weapons rely on melee skills, is a Master TK a better commando than one that has no TK skills?

Depends on what you mean by better. The Defense you gain from TKA makes you a little better on that end, but those skills don't increase your ability to raze a town to the ground with a rocket launcher or burn any unsuspecting people with a well-placed burst of napalm.

Personally I'm not a big fan of unarmed. I enjoyed working towards the marksman half of the commando requirements, but training unarmed was about as much fun as watching grass grow. For those with determination, however, I've heard that TKA is a lot of fun, and that the defenses are well worth the work.
