i was wondering about this earlier. it makes sense to me that they would continue to withhold information for the duration of the beta. so no, not alot of hope. your best bet is to register for the beta and participate.

along with a beta of course comes a non disclosure agreement. does this mean we're not even gonna get docs until possibly the end of beta right before release??

Hopefully they'll give an outline or the documents out first....or something along those lines...but I remember hearing from somewhere that as people enter the beta, the documents will be opened to them...and eventually everyone will get into Beta like JTL.
This I think is still speculation and up in the air so far...as it would be pointless since everyone's going to see the documents anyways...and its better to have the community be prepared rather than get catapulted into the CU Beta a bit shocked from the experience of the documents (and yes, they can hurt).
Unfortunately, Alpha has not begun yet...so this would be a while off (Id estimate over a month, as devs publically have said they'll start the beta post-holidays)....the devs seriously need to consider releasing more information due to 2 reasons:
1) The Loot Revamp isn't holding us...its only in the initial rumblings and it isn't star-tacular to hold a lot of interest like the CU just yet
2) Growing discontent on the forums...the community is getting restless...

i have seen lately a LOT of people leaving to wow or just quitting for personal reasons...cant say i blame'em
there might be some hope..there seems to be some new job openings..maybe they're add-ons to the team to work faster... here's hoping.

From what I've gathered (not officially said by any dev) is that the full docs will be available to folks AS they enter the Beta...there doesn't appear to be any plans currently to fully release the docs publically for awhile (at least a ways into the Beta)...
But notice I said "full docs"...I do believe there are plans to release various combat upgrade information though...From TH's last bit CU related public post, I got the impression that we'd start seeing big announcements and info releases "after the holidays" which makes me think he means sometime around January...
None of this is confirmed...only based on my interpretation of what's been said...
As for what's going on currently on the Sandbox...All of the Sandbox testers have had FULL access to the Docs (same as the Beta testers will) and more direct communications with the devs/programmers responsible for the Combat Upgrade elements...the biggest question floating around is "When will the Sandbox testing start?" General impression is that it could start anytime now (over the next couple of weeks), but there hasn't been a confirmation of that yet (my guess is we'll see it go up mid December at the latest, but who knows)...
On a positive note, I have seen one Sandbox tester yet that has said they hate the plans for the Combat Upgrade...there is some apprehension from some who are eager to see it play out in a testing environment before passing judgement, but most are actually VERY excited about the Upgrade based off of the info they have seen. Even our own Commando Sandbox testers appear to be happy and agree that Commandos will be better off with whats coming to us via the CU (any Commando Sandbox tester reading this is free to correct me if I'm wrong...but without revealing any NDA info of course)...

/sigh
at least docs would give us something to argue about on the galaxy forums. Just about all the stuff posted now is about people leaving or WoW. everytime I try to inflame passion in the GCW, a mod deletes my post
I liked it when we had military rank in our guild, then ifwe declaredwar on 10 imp guilds that day becausefenrir was feeling froggy, oh well, better hang out near the Kimo spawns. (when your outnumbered5 or 6 to 1a herd of Kimos are thegreat equalizer, they don't care, they attack anything that moves.....) now we have to do this conseses cr@p everytime i goad a member of an IMP guild to say something stupid, a mod deletes my post before the rest of my guild can be properly insulted/offended/inflamed to decide that we are going to start something. They won't delete All the i'm leaving and the WoW post though...

Yep, time for me too to retire my commando/smuggler char. As nothing worthwhile is happening and I was staying on till EQ2 came out. Hopefully everything will work out for those of you who are hanging on. As for me, it's time to enjoy something that I am paying for and SWG just isn't it right now.
