Thread: PvP Damage Question
OK, I'm mostly just curious here, so don't go flaming me for whining or anything, In a PvP setting, as far as I know, damage is reduced 75% from what it would be in a PvE setting. Aside from that, everything should work identically to PvE, right?
Now, after some testing and playing around (read: showing off cool commando weapons to people dumb enough to duel me), I noticed a small thing which is bugging the hell out of me - Flame Single 1 and a Particle Beam Cannon (or Acid Stream Launcher, for that instance) seem to be doing about the same damage in PvP.
Now, I've got a prettygood Flamethrower, one that usually hits with Flame Single 1 for about 3750-4250 in PvE (completely ignoring the burn for the time being). Theoretically, then, it should hit for between 938 and 1063 in PvP, right? Now, I whip out any of theCannons that I carry (Particleand Stream) and fire a single shot.... It averages about 920 or less (note that the same cannon pulls 10k+ to an unarmored mob) - in other words, Ihave a 50% One-Hit-Kill ratewith FlameSingle 1 in PvP and I almost cannot one-hit-kill with a weapon that SHOULD, by all my numbers, do 2500+ in PvP.
Now, my question - am I just stupid here? Are my calculations wrong (I know the base numbers are right, I've verified them myself and had them verified by another commando)? Or, perhaps, is something wrong with player Armor, like perhaps a player who isn't wearing armor doesn't appear to haveNone armor rating, but rather no armor rating at all so the armor piercing on the Cannon isn't having an effect...?
To the best of my knowledge higher armor penetration is bugged to lower armor. Somthing along these lines. If your target has AR 1 and you have AP 1 you deal normal damage as you should. If your Target has AR 1 and you have AP 2 or 3 you effectively hit as if you have an AP 0. So for PvP the best damage will be delt by weapons with AP 1. Also when using an AP 1 weapon vs an AR 0 target your weapons damage is like that of an AP 0.
This is basically the responce I got from a CSR when I wrote a ticketa month ago on this issue. If anyone has different findings or information, by all means feel free to correct me.
Just keep leveling. The higher your skill the better you hit. As an example I can only tell you my experience as a Commando 3/4/4/3.
PvP
Using Flame thrower I hit around 1400 or less using flame single 2 in PvP..pretty much 1 shot if they are not buffed.
Acid Rifle...err lets skip this one...needs work
Heavy Particle Beam....hits for about 1200 or so in PvP..again pretty much one shots if not buffed
Acid Stream Cannon...hits for around 800 or so.
Lighting Beam Cannon..pretty much useless in many cases for it's certifications req as the above weapons do the same or more damage. Unless you have something that is vuln to electricity, then use it
Rocket Launcher....now this baby rocks. In PvP, find the opposing medic, watch him/her heal..pop off a shot at 64 meters and watch all around him or her drop dead, including the medic. Just need a master weapon smith willing to make a bag of these puppies for you..they are a blast (no pun intended) to use in PvP.
Launcher Pistol...you need to beg,,and beg some more for a Master Weapons smith to make it JUST right.
Go get some Krayt Dragon tissue. Have him or her use the best possible OQ raw materials (900+), experiment with it...get it sliced for damage (may take a few LP's to do this) then get a NICE CRATE full of power ups...you now have a LP that does about 500 damage at about 1.8 sec.
As a Commando you have a friend called auto follow. Also wear some composite armor and a shield generator (MK3 preferred for pvp and get a Crate of them).
Hit Autofollow on your target and hit Flame cone 1 or 2 if lots of ppl around or flame single 1 or 2 if solo pvp. You will get in a few hits with specials, before you have to worry with that armor and shield on. Light him up and all around him. If he/she burst runs...burst run too..
You will miss and you will hit. So do not despair when you miss...is part of the life of the commando.
With auto follow and exploration IV, no one gets away from me. And I stay at a nice 10 meter distance while my specials recycle.
For PvE
Why use anything else BUT the Flamer??? It hits at 64M and at under 15M you can pretty much one shot almost any mob out there. Need to learn how to kite and draw them close to you on the run.
If you do faction missions, as a commando you can solo the big ones. Just takes a bit getting used to and use the terrain to YOUR advantage. If you have no scouting, stay on the flat terrain, if you have exploration IV, use the mountains to your advantage. Try to hit the NPC furthest from the base...many times you will get 1 solo and repeat...stay close to the base so they do not repawn. If you get too far from the base and another will spawn, probvided you are intending on killing the base afterwards.
If they are solo, charge them..you can take a few hits....Flame single them when you get in range, repeat if you miss. Once hit the NPC/Mob is as good as dead. Rinse and Repeat....if you get mutiple, well here you need to work a little.
Target first one and kite the pack..just use normal shots...you will kill it in little time. IF they get within 15 min and you start to take damage, hit flame Cone 1 or 2 and then burst run/ Most if not all will now be on fire, and you have to quickly change targets and get in at least one normal shot, so that you get XP and or faction for each kill (they will die to the fire bleed).
If you are a starting Novice Commando at 1/1/1/1 I do not recommend the above, you may want to do leviasqualls on Rori, mission terminal at Narmle...have fun.
This has been my experience since the patch...before patch Diseased Nuna's was it on Naboo by Keren..lots and lots of them.
yes, it is very possible, if you have no melee mitigation and they have a good acklay powerhammer. I've hit someone for 2300 damage in PvP before (870 max powerhammer)

thanks for the reply.
yea unfortunetly ranged professions dont get that benifit of having melee mitigation so i guess im screwed.
be it 1350 or 2300 its totally insane.
any suggestions besides changing majority of my profession, im master pistol, 0440 bh to some how not lose so quickly by a swordsman?
1350 is a quite a realistic damage rate for a meleehit3, infact i done them with the acklay hammer but if you hit over 2000s you can bet that is some power hammer and you should be fearing it. ranger fighters should be at range which makes pistoleer cannon fodder i'm afraid your ideal range is far too close and you end up eating it.

im just a sad pistoleer so i expect to get killed against most melee professions, but my question is:
is it possible to get hit with a swordsman shot( sap shot i think) that does 1350 damage to me? the PH in question isnt a looted 1, and im not 1 to make accusations on if its an old double sliced 1( yet).ive been pvp'n for a long long time and never been hit so hard. i know the person is speed capped that uses this weapon.
im just looking for some advice. thanks in advance
First time comming to the boards-
thanks for any imput

Of course there are exceptions if you have amazing gear and uber loot etc. Like, got a friend with mpistol/mbh a 700dmg scatter +25 acc, etc, and crazy dot pistols, etc. <--- is an exception. For regular players with regular equiptment, pistoleer will suck in pvp, then again, without speed tapes, so will swords.

too bad you're not on eclipse, I'd have taught you carbines... and I don't even use loot made ones !
go to carbineer boards, you'll get what I mean there...
Like I said, there are exceptions, people with good shiit. I've never been beat as a rifle/pike/4440 fencer by a carbineer without psn/fire with over 250 str, capped speed, and acc attachies to boot, aka, the average carbineer. Hell I can recall multiple times killing fully buffed carb's who had 3k to all pools, using only brandy vercupti and pixie, no buffs.
