Thread: Why is it SOE cant just simply cert Beam Rifle at novice commando?
So how about you give us the beam rifle. Hell make it use PISTOL specials for all I care. Copy/paste the code from the launcher pistol cert to the beam rifle.

Cmon SOE we know you can do it. It was done for the republic blaster.

Part of the problem is that there are other professions that want the Beam Rifle cert as well...if we get it, they'll flip out just like we'd flip out if they got it...That's why I think SOE is being hessitent on giving that cert out...Same holds true regarding the E-Web cert we want...we aren't the only one's asking for it...
I will say this though, with the CU, just about every combat profession will be getting something new to play with (at least that's what I've heard so far...that could very likely be changed to "every combat profession" by the CU launch)...

Rright now, Commandos, Riflemen andBH's are the only professions that have the pre-req's to qualify for the Beam Rifle...sono other profession should be entitled to have it me thinks...we've put in the work necessary to qualify for it...as for the E-Web, I just can't imagine how the folks in other professions can come to believe that they deserve certification for it. Maybe BH's because of the pre-req's...but we're the pure combat class. We have the strongest argument for it.

SL's also have a strong arguement for the E-Web...that's a reason why I've always pushed my proposal to include a joint involvement in the E-Web between SL's and Commandos (that we'd work together using the E-Web)...the idea is that we'd be able to use the E-Web to do damage, but SL's would pretty much have all the skill mods to use the E-Web well (we'd have to be group'd with them to get those mods enhancements)...The fact that the SL's are scheduled for a revamp after the CU means it's a good idea to convince SL's a joint effort is a great idea
...
As for the Beam Rifle...there has also been talk about putting the Cert at Master Marksman which would mean that both Commandos and BH's would automatically get it...that seems like the safest way to push for it (to prevent cross profession flame wars which, just the idea of it typically prevents the devs from going certain routes)...

Now THAT is a very well reasoned compromise! It permits ANY player who wants the cert to master marksman to receive it. No one is "given" anything....they earn it.
Perhaps this very reasonable solution could be implemented BEFORE the RUB (Revamp/Upgrade/Balance) as a small token to tide over the whining, disgruntled, disappointed and frustrated masses in the ground game (like me.
Thanks Garvin and thanks for the good thread topic Tacwraith!

Yea, I didn't think of SL's when thinking of the E-Web...a joint involvement of SL and Commandosounds like a good idea and a good compromise...On a side topic, I've been wondering why SL pre-req's aren't closer in line with ours...cause I'd personally love to be a Master Commando/SL if both professions are useful after the Revamp(s).Right now, that isn't possible...and both professions are severely broken. hehe. I'm sure that a Dev would say something about in-game balance and the need for interprofession dependence being the reason why we are not allowed to master both...but wouldn't a (fixed)Master Commando/SL be someone tha people would want to group with?
My concern is this.... with the Beam Rifle's stats at their current level one would have to be a Rifleman (assuming it is a rifle) to use it effectively, at which point it become redundant because the T21 would be a superior weapon in the same class. If the stats were balanced to make it effective for non-rifleman to use (moderate damage, low speed, high accuracy) it would still be outclassed by the T21 as a Rifleman weapon but remain a feasable option for Master Marksman.

I actually carried around a Beam Rifle for quite awhile for looks before I realized the HAR looked almost identical. I would love to see the weapon come into some use because it looks so cool and we could really use a non-disposable energy weapon (I have a very expensive HPBC habit atm) that deals a resonable, elite-profession-level amount of damage.

How accurate is the beam rifle? can you put a scope on it? With defensive stackers being the way they are, I've pretty much abondoned the T21 in PvP in favor of the DRX-6b except in really large battles where you can step back and keep a large chunk in ideal range. Now if ONLY I culd get an accurate T21. No matter what anyone says, the AP3 of a t21 seems to Mkae a HUGE difference when you manage to hith the poor idiot that brought a stick to a gun fight.
As for the matter of the E-Web, I agree with Garvin's thoughts with us crossing with Squad Leaders to properly use the E-Web. The E-Web as we see in Empire Strikes Back, is a crew served weapon. A Commando / Squad Leader combination makes sense, and it would probably be easier for the devs to swallow. Also, this would help both of our professions, since we all haven't had much swing our way recently... except for the iron-made Nerf Bat.
