Thread: Returning Player with a question fo fellow commandos
I've found that quite a few things have changed in the past year+ One of these is my combat.
First, I can't equip my handy composite chunks (anyone still refer to wearing chest/boots/gloves of a set "raiding armor"???) without being slowed down to an absolute crawl.
O.K. no harm, no foul, I'm still a 3/1/4/0 commando (as well as master WS). So no problem I'll just equip my flamethrower and...................er..........uh......**edit**!
According to my tooltip, I need a combat level of 53 to equip my beloved weapon. My character sheet boldly proclaims that I'm Combat Level 33, and therefore can't use my delightfull critter-roaster.
Several friendly people in the game have been unable to answer the simple question of "how do I raise my combat level, and where do I see how close I am to the next combat level?"
I've been told I have to take up more boxes under commando...etc....etc..... but figure the un-earned boxes would tell me how many combat point/levels/whatevers I'd get per box, but they have nothing to say about it either.
So now I pose the question to my community; How do I go about raising my combat level, and how do I see how close I am to the next combat level? Is it, in fact, tied to your progression throguh the skil tree? This would seam like a hurrendous nerf, as then it would be impossible for a master weaponsmith (such as me) to use a flame-thrower (which is/used to be the most gratifying weapon the game, I remember endless hours of grinding XP clearing the entire beach on Yavin, a whole nest at a time)
And while I'm posting, is the whole route from force-sensitve to Jedi Initiate still a crazy long path?
Thanks folks!
P.S. For any wondering, if you cancel your account, they won't delete your toon, but your house/factories/harvs and everything in any will poof, which really sucks when you have a tremendous amount of resources in said house
You gain CL per box of what you learn in a combat profession (such as TK, Marksman, Etc.) more so for elites (such as MCommando) and less so for non elites (such as MMarksman)
Non combat profs gain no CL
What weapon you can use is tied to your CL, but some weapons still require you have a specific box learned also. In some cases this is annoying as you'll need to be CL54 but only need say a tier 2 box in whatever profession.
Yes in some ways gaining jedi is even harder now... but theres to many of those wandering around now anyway ![]()
Allirghty, thanks for the replies, I don't feel quite so bad off.
I was digging around through the trees and discovered that you no longer have to have MMarksman to get commando, which is an absolutely fantastic change IMO, allowing me to have some points free.
Can anyone link me to where CL is tabulated on a box-by-box basis? (or tell me where to find it ingame, been looking around to no avail)? Do I have to master two "second tier" combat profs to hit 80? And finally, does creature handler count as a combat profession? (or have they been nerfed completely out of existance in my absence)
Third question of the evening; Which is a desirable crafting profession for a commando to take up? I'm a master weaponsmith at the moment, and don't know if it's worth rebuilding my cache of materials 'n stuff to take on the same 'ol crafting profession I did for about a year. Come to find out I'm elligable for the free respec that went around a decent while ago. If there is no crafting spec that stands out above the rest, are there any combat professions that lend themselves particularly well to also being a commando?
Back when I dropped out of the game, Bounty Hunters with decent weapons couldsurpass a commando for single-target hits, but were way behind on AOE ownage, has this changed at all?
And finally, which combat profession is currently at the top of the heap for PVE slaughterage, honestly? (I'd dig around, but every profession is always the best to those which have mastered it, commando's used to be way up there, so I'll ask here and see what I get)
From reading the Jedi forums, it does seem like there are 1,000,001 jedi running about these days. Reguardless, I'd still like to at least wield a saber at one point or another, if for no other reason than it's massively cool and it's been a goal since I first started playing..... which incidently was in the Beta3 timeframe.... Any other old timers who have since gotten up to speed on the "new" world of SWG, lemme know how ya did it =P
Ok first off... Im sort of an old timer i havent played since beta, i know, but i have been playing since way before CU hit (feb 04 baby
) and I like you had to leave (for my own reasons of course) and came back to the CU.
The CL advancement system is still very confusing to me and I suggest you go to http://www.bloodfin.org/modules/mydownloads/and download the prof calc there as its the most up to date and will also share with you what your CL will be. The thing is when you get non elite boxes, im not sure how it works, but sometimes you gain CL, and sometimes you dont... if you master a non-elite (like mmarksman) your CL will only be 15 which means you gain 14 (considering you start at one).... like i said tho im confused by this.
It gets less complicated once you get into the elite area if you get a Master Elite (only one and no other boxes learned yet, and we'll say MCommando for now just for the example) you'r CL will be 54
You must Have 2 Elites Mastered to gain CL 80 (this is something else, im unsure why.... I believe it is because you cannot have much else if you are working on 2 elites though) Like i said though it gets very confusing because if you dabble but never master several elites your CL will never seem to reach 80.
Yes MCH is considered a combat Profession and as such gains CL, my alt is a MCH/MSwords.
I'm sorry but i cant answer your crafting question as I have never crafted and know absolutely nothing about that... sorry
a good Commando Temp (as any temp goes) depends on you, and your play style. If you like PvE alot, and love high end aggros MCommando/Mrifles/CM4--- is a good temp (thats what i do as its also useful for PvP) or you could change that really to any other Master ranged with Commando and the CM part and you'll still be fine IMO. But like i said that all depend son your playstyle... bear in mind now that heals are way to important and as such if you dont find your self with a group alot, or with someone who heals you'll have to be able to heal yourself which is a shame to me but oh well...
Im guessing your asking what a good tank template is now, and first i must let you know Groups have become very important. Barely anyone (not even a full temp Jedi Defender) can solo any mission on his own (well i should say I am unaware as I know maybe a Full Temp Jedi Defender could possibly solo a CL 79 or 80 Mission but i dont know). Some say they can solo Krayts, and NK Necrosis, and blah blah blah, but to be honest these people r either talking, or know how to do it but admit themselves it is tricky. That being said, a good non-jedi tank is rather up in the air because Melee tends to gain the best defense but they dont hit as hard as Ranged for the most part (not counting if you find great weapons and ADK them such as the TKM's KOTK or the Nightblade). Swordsman does hit hard but doesnt have defense or speed so i guess if it was mixed with TKM it could possibly hold the aggro as well as take the damage but i have seen very few with this template so i canot confim this. You might wanna play around with ideas and go from there... its really a whole new system your working with now thats overwhelming at first but you get the hang of it as you go...
As far as getting up to speed with the new SWG... just takes about a week to grasp the new system as most anything (how Combat works, and CLs and all thatas well aswhats good armor, or weapons) isfairly simple once you see how it works. I dont really know what else to add other than that as most my old friends that are returning i just show in game so im not really sure until it comes up, but hope this alll helps ![]()
