I just found some instructions on how to make a home made, PVC pipe Flamethrower, and I would like to invite the combat system developers to come over and help me do some comparison testing between some swords, guns, and a flamethrower 
...
by the way, here's the instructions:

kids... don't try this at home as 3rd degree burns tend to have slightly more permanent effects in real life. Imagine if you accidentally got some flaming alcohol on your wee wee... do you want your wee wee to catch fire? i don't, and i hope you don't want my wee wee to cath fire either (or yours for that matter). don't play with wee wee's... errrr ummm i mean fire!

Why am I not suprised this was posted in something awful. Cool looking, but definately a way to increase your chances of earning a Darwin award.

I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from attempting making one of these as any errors will likely severe burns/death and even successful completion could land you in jail. If you sincerely feel challenged to make the attempt, I would reccomend only making the water gun variant and leaving it at that. That should be enough accomplishment in and of itself, as no one should have a legitimate use for a flamethrower in real life.
