well, i haven't been paying attention too much lately so i'm unsure if anything like this has been suggested. so bear this in mind before pointing out that it already has, if indeed it has.
as you know, acid rifle is COMPLETELY useless, in just about every respect.
who the hell am i kidding, in ALL respects. compared to flamer, no dot, less damage, same crap speed.
this idea is more of a post-rebalance idea, given the way it works. the framework for something like this is already in the game and notable by the jedi's weaken ability.
first off, there's the standard 'add a dot'. the dot will be roughly half the power of a flame dot.
however, to balance this out, it could create an effect such as "acid burn" on a target. will lower the resistances of the target's mob/player's resists by 5% per hit, to a maximum possible reduction of 25%.
this will of course, wear off after a few minutes, and the target's resists will eventually return to normal.
with the speed of the acid rifle, the way it's timed would mean that if you went for the full 25% reduction you'd only have room for about 1 or 2 flame specials before the resists started to rise back up. so you'd need pretty constant acid baths to keep them lowered to the lowest point, but not a whole lot of effort if you wanted to go for a 5 or 10% drop.
however, this could open up windows for tactical strikes during the time that the enemy's resists are down(think several large group volley fires by other members during the short window that the target's resists have been reduced by 25% and you'll see what i'm getting at).
this could also help make certain ridiculously overpowered mobs such as the sbds in the droidwatch bunker much more tolerable(think about it, even if they were also balanced after pub 11, they'd STILL be much more powerful and annoying).
this isn't of course to suggest that this is the only thing acid rifles should get, just something to fit into the framework.
