Garvin, I've got alot of respect for the amount of energy that you put into your position. And your ideas are top rate. But I think you need to sniff the smelling salts and wake up. You're being used. You've gone from a part of the solution to a part of the PR campaign.
Why have a summit when 8 months of work can't fix things?
Why have a summit when a chat roomwould workas well?
What makes you thing you'll get anything more than a tour, a dinner, meet some devs and then shoved out the door with a bag of party favors?
I don't think you're being realistic. You're being used as a puppet so SOE can look like they're trying.
You'll get agreed with. Things will get written down on notepads. Action will be promised.
You've been agreed with. Things have already made it to lists. Action has been promised infact we were told action was happening!
There's a pattern here and it doesn't look like it's heading to a fixed game.
I have alot of faith in the fact that some of the correspondents have been doing the best job that anyone could do. Especially you and Jest3r. It's gotten the game nowhere. Jest3r lives GCW and the only thing he's gotten are ulcers and bad news. Things are just as broken, maybe more now with jedi, than ever. They say that they're going to fix the game after JTL, but heaven-forbid that might delay the next expansion.
We're being milked and they somehow managed to talk you into distracting us while they stick vacuum's to our t!ts. What happend to get you to this point? You used to be quite a bit more suspicious of promises and timelines. I can't believe a free trip to Austin would do this.
I always had a hope of comming back to commando after the balance. I loved it so much that i got half my boxes with a drop flamethrower before the WS change that saved the profession. I've since given up that dream. I cancelled a couple weeks ago and I'm done. SOE has become a company that I don't want to support anymore. Keep burning things guys.

I think its to get a better idea of what is going on and so they can all see what it takes to fix it so they all can come back and say wow I just saw some of the stuff there doing! Its going to take a lil bit of time to code all these things but its worth it. or something.
I think this is a ploy To give us more false hope. That is about all I can see come from this hehehe. But hey my hopes and dreams where shot down after waiting 8 months for the revamp heheh. O well.

Even though I truly believe that the summit is mostly for PR like you said, you cant dispute that it will have some positive outcomes. The DEVs will have no place to run with all of the correspondents there. They cant just put up a vague post on the forums and walk away without another remark. Face to face conversations are much easier to argue points with than a chat. We will see what comes from it. I have full faith in Garvin to be able to talk about our main issues with the DEVs. As long as we get definitive answers when they return, I will be very happy.

Not only that...rumor says that Garvin is handpicking a special squad of Forum commandos to infiltrate SOE HQ while he distracts the Devs in order to steal Vital CB info.

I've responded to same type posts in other threads, so I'll reprise some of my responses here...

You do realize that everything was set to go on the final CB phase back in Publish 7...but then the devs decided to add Profession specific changes into the pot and delayed the CB...They then decided to add more profession changes and delayed again...then the Jedi thing as well as other changes came up that needed to be balanced against the CB, so then the CB got delayed yet again...Now the devs are pulling in a lot more staff to work on the CB which tells me that something HUGE is in the works...It's not like they haven't done anything...they just keep adding more to this monster called the CB...From the sound of it, it's going to change the entire way combat works and is scored as well as how many Professions function...It touches just about EVERY profession in game in some fashion...
Why have a summit when a chat roomwould workas well?
Have you ever worked for a company that was spread out across the country? I currently do...We often have phone conferences and chat sessions, but when it comes to big projects, we ALWAYS do face to face meetings...Over the phone or in chat you can't assure that everyone is listening or grasping all the issues like you can in a F2F....The Devs need to sell us on the CB so we Correspondents can turn around and sell you all on it...with as much hype as they've put into the CB, if they did anything but a F2F, I'd be even more concerned...I'm getting the sense that some people are under-estimating the full scope of the CB if they think it can be fully addressed via the forum or a chat session...Remember, there are over25 professions directly impacted by the CB...
What makes you thing you'll get anything more than a tour, a dinner, meet some devs and then shoved out the door with a bag of party favors?
Because, like me, many of use Correspondents are taking 2 days off from work for this...We are going with certain expectations that the Devs clearly know we have...And we'd be very upset if we didn't get what we are going for...
This is more then just a meet-and-greet...this is more like a Make-Or-Break summit...the Devs know they have to sell the Correspondents on the CB or they have no hope of the Communities accepting it...If I hate what they have instore for us, trust me, that's exactly how I'll report it back to you...and think at what type of chaos that would lead too...
It's silly to think that the Devs would take all the Correspondents who are expecting a serious CB discussion and just Wine & Dine them instead...they'd be shooting themselves in the feet worse then they have already...
I don't think you're being realistic. You're being used as a puppet so SOE can look like they're trying.
I have always spoke my true opinion...never been a puppet...never will be...Just ask TH about some of my "disagreements" in the Correspondent forum...lol...The Devs know that what we see and hear, we'll bring back to our forums...and even if they tell us we can't bring back specific details, they can't stop us from saying It's Good or It's Bad...We aren't paid employees...and if I don't see positive things coming why would I or anyone else keep playing...again, this summit is a Make or Break event when it comes to PR regarding the CB...that's being realistic and looking at the bigger picture...
You'll get agreed with. Things will get written down on notepads. Action will be promised.
You've been agreed with. Things have already made it to lists. Action has been promised infact we were told action was happening!
The devs have written down a lot of things already...that's true...and apparently, many of our issues have made it into the CB...that's what I'm going to find out out, hopefully which of those issues are in there...It may very well be a "That sounds good, we'll take that into consideration" type of thing, but I'll at least get to look them in the eye when they say that instead of just read a post...I'm not going to this summit to see what might be, I'm going to see what IS when it comes to the CB...remember also, Publish 10 is coming soon...and in there we are suppose to see Correspondent issues addressed....
There's a pattern here and it doesn't look like it's heading to a fixed game.
The Devs have made many fixes since the game came out...and they continue to do so...I am often critical of the Devs, but I have to give them props for trying...They just haven't moved at the speed a lot of us would have liked since the game started OR they've worked on projects we disagree with rather then the fixes we'd like to see...but no one can say the devs have just sat by idle...they've been working hard as far as I can tell...
Jest3r does a great job fighting for the GCW...and in the long run I honestly think the game is going to be a lot better when the things he's fought for get implemented...I can tell you, from the posts I've read by him, he's definitely a friend of the Commando Profession...He pretty much agrees with how we see ourselves in the grander scheme of the game...
The Devs take Jest3r, as well as all the Correspondents, very seriously....unfortunately these delays have hit Jest3r probably harder then any other Community Correspondent, since his Community makes up all Combat Professions...
But good things are coming...if you don't believe that, then why keep playing the game...it's that belief that has kept me here as long as it has...
We're being milked and they somehow managed to talk you into distracting us while they stick vacuum's to our t!ts. What happend to get you to this point? You used to be quite a bit more suspicious of promises and timelines. I can't believe a free trip to Austin would do this.
That's why the Summit is so important...Even if you feel the Dev's have strung us along all this time, this would be their big mistake then...We Correspondents are going with a purpose...to find out as much as we can about the CB and tweak it as much as we can for the betterment of our Communities as well as the over-all game...Anything less and they know we'll bring back negative feelings to our Communities...
Ifthe Devstoldus they had a Brand New Mercedes SLK for anyone who took time off from work andflew to Austin, many of us would probably go...Now if we got there and found out it was actually a POS Gremlin with a Mercedies logo glued on, what do you think our reactions would be? How many people would come back and make sure to tell everyone about the scam? We'd be pissed off for being tricked...We'd go thinking we were getting one thing, but in reality, when we got there we'd see a whole different beast waiting for us...That's how I feel about this Summit...We are going expecting one thing...if the devs don't deliver, it could be bad...very very bad....
As I've stated often...If after the CB people come flocking to the Commando Profession and I actually read the phrase "Commandos are the Flavor of the Month", then I'll know I've done my job....I too hope you'll have plenty of reasons to return...

For some reason im sure months ago this would have given me hope. I guess I finaly hit rock bottom with this game and even Garvins words seem to do nothng but echoing in the dark deep well that all the empty promises have formed. I think I am going to be just a commando to give out info on question when I can,and a grumpy old commando with no faith in SOE. I will be the voice of anger and rage. I will be the Voice that echos from the darkness to shake the heavens. I will be ummmm angry!
And it is justified and it will be bad. BUt hey that is what I need to do!

I know the correspondents have done a good job of getting the devs the ideas, but i don't believe the CB was every "ready". I'm still not convinced they had a real plan of action. The game has gotten considerably more unbalanced since pub7. If they knew what the problem was at the time, i'd have expected better balance of new things since then.
Have you ever worked for a company that was spread out across the country? I currently do..
Got customers all over. Customers, like most of the correspondents i'd guess, don't understand code or program logic. They do however know what they want. That's easy to get out of them as it's easy to get out of correspondents and players. I don't do face to face with customers and don't suffer from it. If the programmersI work with were in different places that would be different. Design meetings do need to be face to face. I hope for the game's sake, you're going to be in a true design meeting. Doubt it, but I hope you are.
I have always spoke my true opinion...never been a puppet...never will be...
This was in no way a cut on you. You've done exactly what players want their correspondent to do. I just think you've been fed a line of sh!t and I wasn't sure if you were smelling it.
...and in there we are suppose to see Correspondent issues addressed....
last time we got a new particle effect for a useless weapon.......
they've been working hard as far as I can tell...
they admitted they'd been putting their effort into JTL. I'm sure they're working at it hard, but I'm not playing or paying for JTL at this time. I'm not going to say anything bad about the programmers or the real game designers. The ones who do the real work.
But good things are coming...if you don't believe that, then why keep playing the game...it's that belief that has kept me here as long as it has...
Bingo. I did believe good things were on the way. TH's post did that in.
As I've stated often...If after the CB people come flocking to the Commando Profession and I actually read the phrase "Commandos are the Flavor of the Month", then I'll know I've done my job....I too hope you'll have plenty of reasons to return...
I do hope the things turn out the way you want. You're too good of a guy to be screwed the way it appears is happening. If my post has made you more suspicious of what happens in Austin, and makes it harder on the producers to shine players on, then I've done what I wanted to.

I agree with you 100% Skeptic when I started playing SWG back at release, I was thinking "Diamond in the Rough". They'll fix it slowly, step by step, but they'll fix it.Now I'm thinking" Petrifed Turd".
