Thread: Need a revamp for Rocket Launcher Type Weapons

I'm a master commando and LLC IV in bounty hunter. I find that when I am fighting big things like an AT-ST that I am doing a lot more damage using Lightning Single 2 than with any kind of rocket launcher I use. This isn't saying much for rocket type weapons, we could really use some kind of damage revamp making them a lot more destructive.

Ganrax is right.1000 damage on a rocket launcher?? I'd probably do more damage with a flame single(and AT-STs defend heat 100%). It would also be nice to be some weapons that were actually used in the movies, e.g.DC-15s, Ewebs, better rocket launchers... The commando profession definitely needs a revamp.

Also i just thought about it, grenades should KD the thing getting hit by it. Think about it, how many things do you know that would stand still after getting a grenade exploded under their legs?.

Heh...I was fighting an AT-ST the other day at the stronghold on Corellia. I tried the rocket launcher and barely scratched it, I tried the launcher pistol and was only chipping away (note: I had no heavy support wep skill, and no pistol skill besides the marksman stuff). But I pulled out my flamethrower for kicks, gave it a flamesingle 2, and ran for cover. It's health dropped like mad. That's kind of sad, when you think about it...

We need to seriously get the devs to make some big changes with commando, maybe add some new weapons. Any other ideas?

The reason the rocket launcher is not a good weapon to use against the AT/ST is due to its blast vulnerability. I know that sounds counter-intuitive but due to the wacky armor piercing/armor resistance setup if something has a vulnerabilty to a damage type, the armor piercing bonus/penalty is thrown out. For weapons with no AP or low AP (like the launcher pistol AP=0) this is a good thing; the AT/ST's armor rating (heavy? AR=3 I think...) doesn't reduce the LP's damage. But for weapons with high AP (like the rocket launcher-AP3) this is actually a penalty-usually the RL gets a 25% bonus for each point of armor piercing rating it has over its target. This is a big source of its damage-against an AR=0 target the rocket launcher gets a 1.95X bonus almost doubling its damge output. If you throw that out, the RL is no good. Wanna be a commando AT/ST buster?Get a really fast speed-sliced Launcher Pistol paired with the dirty fighting line of smuggler (last ditch-multiplies your damage 6X) along with 0004 pistoleer (for speed). If you get your pistol built/sliced fast enough you can fire last ditch 1/sec at 6X damage (better be buffed tho!). With the AT/ST's blast vulnerability there's no penalty/resistance-it all goes straight thru. Yes I know this isn't using much of the commando skills...(sigh).


PART OF THE COMBAT BALANCE SHOULD BE TO REMOVE THE BLAST VULNERABILITY OF THE AT/ST SO THAT THE ROCKET LAUNCHER WILL ACTULLY BE A VIABLE ANTI-VEHICULAR WEAPON (that's what RL's do, right? tank-busters?). The AT/ST should have no resist to blast and no vulnerabilty to blast. Then the RL will bust up AT/STs. My 2 cents.
