Is taking Commando just to dabble in the Flamethrower line viable? Or is it a waste of points? I wouldnt have much points left after doing it. Just enough to take Novice Medic. The Flamethrower would be my only source of damage. Strictly PvE only. I dont like to PvP much and my computer wouldnt let me anyway lol. I just get so tired of the same old blasters and swords. Thought maybe a Flamethrower would be cool /shrug.

Thanks for any info.

I took up Commando for a change. Personally I like having a flamethrower to light things up. I generally only pve too and for the points to get Shock Trooper, its worth it imo. I dropped the rest of the boxes except the flame thrower line as I never got much use out of the other heavy weapons and heard such bad things about grenades I didn't even bother to trying to find a vendor stocked with them.

If you're wondering about damage, how it compares to other weapons/lines for the skill points I don't know but with a damage sliced flamer at about 1100 max damage you can normally light up a mob without high resists from 10 - 13 k of damage.

Don't be discouraged whilst moving up the tree as accuracy and speed and specials don't combine well until you hit flame 4 when you get flamesingle 2.

So taking Flamethrower and having no other combat skills is ok? Besides pre-reqs of course.I mean Id be using the Flamethrower exclusively. Also, whats the typical range most people use for it? Looks to be horrible at mid range, bonus at point blank, and no bonus or negative effects at max range? Is that correct?

I'll be honest, aside from the master box, there is no reason to take anything other than the FT line at this point.

The specials for the FT in commando only work under 16m, so that's really the only place it's practical to use.

I don't believe that just having flame4 and no other combat skills will be a good way to go. Having flame 4 will cost you 126 skill points, so you will still have 124 points to work with. You can take either TKA or pistols, even carbines and rifles. And I do say that because your pre-requisite for being a commando in the first place will already fulfill requirement to become novice in those fields as well.

Why is that important? Because putting 126 skill points just to have one column completed is quite a lot of investment in skill points. You want to be efficient and not put them to waste. I honestly think that flame4 shocktrooper with master pistoleer and BH pistols 4 would be quite interesting template. That launcher pistol will be really fun to use!
