Greetings,

Just got novice commando.....Woot!

I have been reading these boards looking for info on the best way to get to flame 4. Noticed some people say best way to get to flame4 is with flamethrower others (like Ivoni) recommend using Launcher pistol until flame3.

Just wanted to know what you fellow Commando's think.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Use launcher pistol until you get Flame 3.

I'll add to that...Use the Launcher Pistol to get your Heavy Weap XP until you reach Flame 3...then switch to the FT...

But to enhance this...get Novice Pistoleer (you can always give it up later)...this will give you /healthshot2 which is a better bleed then /healthshot1 and stacks....

Make a macro as follows:

/healthshot2;

/healthshot1;

This is what I used to start most fights...it stacked a quick heavy bleed on the target and lead to a faster kill....

Also make sure you are grouped with a pet or droid that stays out of the fight...Grouping will give you bonus xp (not sure the %) but it is worth it...

This is good info. I just got a launcher pistol and am starting to climb. However, I was very disappointed to find out the launcher doesn't give me any pistol XP. Would have been nice.

Launcher Pistol used to give Pistol XP, back in the day. Eventually this was fixed.

I'm not so sure I like the word "fix." I mean, you're using a pistol, aren't you? You're killing things with a launcher pistol, yet you don't get pistol XP.

The Launcher pistol was changed over to heavy weapon xp because without it there is no "easy" way to get heavy weapon xp at Novice Commando...Jumping into the FT before Flame III leaves the player with very bad accuracy, which makes the heavy grind a bit much....The LP is a pistol in that it can use pistol specials, but remember it's also a Commando Specific Heavy Weapon, and because of that it grants Heavy Weapon XP.

The original intest, as far as I have gathered, is that if a person wanted pistol xp, they can get similar results with the fwg5 or other various pistols (I have some pre-patch fwg5's that are better then my LP)...Most LP's (with the exception of pre-patch krayt lp's) are slower then the standard pistol and therefore not as benificial.

'pistol' describes a weapon that can beheld in one hand, with a short barrel.

The launcher PISTOL fires ROCKETS. Rockets are not 'pistol' damage.

Clear enough?

As far as the XP thing, I got my xp quick using the flamer since novice. the LP will do 300 damage a shot, the flamer do 1200. once you get flamesingle1, just go ahead and use the special every chance you get.

'Foolish boy. Don't you know anything about Fantasia? It's the world of human fantasy. Every part, every creature of it, is a piece of the dreams and hopes of mankind. Therefor, it has no boundaries.'
'But why is Fantasia dying then?'
'Because people have begun to loose their hopes and forget their dreams. So the nothing grows stronger. It's the emptiness that's left. It's like a despair, destroying this world. And I have been trying to help it.'
'But why?'
'Because people who have no hopes are easy to control. And whoever has control has the power'

I used the LP till flame I.... the accuracy can be poor at times, but if you set the flamesingle1 up with an AIM it helps much.

Well, I'll say this:

I have Flame4. I've never used a Launcher Pistol. Never needed one. How anyone can say that it is a difficult grind with the FlameThrower is beyond me... I got more XP faster with that Flamethrower than any other weapon I've used. Just make sure you go buy a GOOD one and then get it sliced for SPEED. Done deal. And by GOOD, I don't mean you have to get a Krayt one for 1 million credits. 10K credits ought to have you all set up.

Another good plan is to get a low-level pet, and do missions. Have the pet attack the lair, then stand back and FLAME, FLAME, FLAME. You'll have Flame4 in a couple days.

If you use the Launcher Pistol, get some speed powerups and slap ‘em on there. It’ll help, trust me. I’ve got an LP that has +31 or 32% speed powerups on it (you should be able to find those on the Bazaar in crates of ten for 2.5-3k). Puts me at a 60 to 2-hundred-and-somethin’ damage, with a 1.8 speed.

Interesting to point out that if you’re also a smuggler with at least three bars in the Dirty Fighting tree, and you use Low Blow, you WILL get some pistol XP. It was only like 40/50 points to the 860 per kill I was getting for Dune Bantha…but still nice.

Never really used the Launcher for Heavy XP, just to get to flame 1. Let a CH tank for you and come up and start the roasting. Doing this with Ravenous Tortons on Rori and getting around 3k xp. Each lair, without babies, is around 21k and around 9300-9400 credit payout, half that is you have a CH tanking for you. Leveled most of Commando in a week's time.

Get a FT your willing to lose..and make a macro that is /kneel;/aim;/overchargeshot2...simply remake that macro until flame III (ie /kneel;/aim;/flamesingle1...you know make 2 different ones for cone and single)
